The Florida game they had no hope with a skeleton staff. The Bama game they needed everything to go right and frankly the coaches did us no favors with their offensive gameplan.

All that said. I'd take the win at Notre Dame over any of the AAC Bowl wins.

That's another feather in the program's cap. I don't remember the exact number but we broke the Irish's consecutive home win streak that I believe was #2 behind Clemson at the time.

Easily the most impressive "signature" win in program history. I wonder too if the Georgia loss in the Peach might have provided some extra motivation to the Bearcats to go undefeated and to the CFP in '21.

Not just extra motivation. I think the unfinished business might have brought a number of guys back who would have otherwise left. We might not have the CFP birth or the ND win without the Georgia loss.

For sure...I think if we win that game, multiple guys go a year early and Fickell is probably out of there as well. That loss weirdly gave two more years of the previous regime.

MON 7:30pm ESPN
3 TCU [13-1] o62.5
1 Georgia [14-0] -12.5
CFP National Championship, SoFi Stadium, Inglewood, CA

I'll take TCU with the two touchdown spread. Georgia lucked out against Ohio State. Don't underestimate Max Duggan.

Just some food for thought, Zach Taylor is one of only two NFL head coaches who were hired in 2019 who are still on the job. Matt Lafleur is the other.

Cardinals: Kliff Kingsbury
Browns: Freddie Kitchens
Broncos: Vic Fangio
Buccaneers: Bruce Arians
NY Jets: Adam Gase
Dolphins: Brian Flores

Taylor's come far enough that I wouldn't try to downplay his coaching prowess based on extenuating factors. He has a a great core and struck gold with Lou, but man there's no downplaying how incredible it is to turn this franchise into a Super-bowl or bust mold within 3 years. If you're looking for tangible coaching traits, I think he's probably shown more humility as a young coach than most do- and seems willing to scrap ideas when they aren't working. I think his hiring is a big testament to the idea that CEO-like qualities in coaches are still undervalued in the hiring process, especially in those young "wiz kid" molds that frequently get big promotions from spearheading efficient offenses/defenses prior to becoming HC.

Well, I wouldn't have bet money on TCU hanging 51 points on Michigan either so I won't sell the Horned Frogs short. But I also feel the best in the SEC almost always are superior to the Big Ten--and really every other conference. So while I'd like to have the reigning national champion in our conference--maybe visiting Nippert in the fall, I think my head still says Georgia wins.

Yeesh. Georgia looked like they were playing against the JV.

It's why I don't gamble LOL. Fuggin' TCU. Impostors. I know we didn't score a TD against Bama but we didn't give up 65 points either. TCU and the Dykenator got embarrassed. There are no other words...

Only thing I touched on that game was the total over and the Georgia over. I still didn't think nearly all of the points would be Georgia, though. Certainly doesn't do any favors for the perception of the Big 12 next year and beyond.

The only conference with at winning record in the playoffs is SEC at 16-5. ACC is 6-6 but the Clemson run appears over at this point which is the driver of that record. B10 is 3-7 and B12 is 1-5. My point being that the B12 isn't the SEC but no one else is either.

RE: 2022 College Football Season Thread
Watched the 5G/Skycam telecast. Was impressive to watch from the perspective of almost being on the QBs shoulder as each play started. Also reinforced that having talented "skill" players means next to nothing without a talent OL. UGAs line destroyed TCU all game long. There were pancake blocks routinely and when Stetson dropped back he almost always had multiple clear lanes to throw through without moving much off his spot. The opposite was true for Duggan who was not allowed to get comfortable. This game was all about the big uglies

Makes me proud of how UC played with both UGA and Bama... UC didn't have near the depth but held our own pretty well in retrospect.

One of the better comments during the broadcast from the sideline reporter was with a "former TCU player that plays pro ball now" who said that TCU was getting beaten by a team that could compete with some of the teams he plays on Sundays.

On the lighter side... the broadcast I watched didn't do commercials so at half time got to watch both bands. Ticked me off yet again about O$U blowing it against UGA... not only would the game have probably been more entertaining but UGAs band was atrocious. Would much rather have seen the Buckeye band... and that hurts me to say something nice about "those people in Cbus".

To TCU... How stupid do you look to make it to the CFP championship and get stomped by 58?

To Michigan... How stupid do you look for losing to the team that then lost by 58???

To O$U... How did you explain coming within a FG of beating Georgia, but after losing to the team that lost to the team that lost by 58??? At home!!!

Bolded, maybe. But plenty in media this past season suggested MI could have been the best team in the country and TCU beat them, hanging 51 points against Harbaugh's lauded defense.

I'm sure there will be chatter among fans today about who had the second best team this season. OSU faithful will compare GA head-to-head scores and suggest they were. But the Buckeyes have lost two consecutive years (a Columbus beatdown in '22) to Michigan, which couldn't beat TCU. So I would have liked Michigan's chances to beat OSU three straight.

The second best team might not have been in the CFP--Alabama. An expanded playoff may provide a clearer picture of who survives that gauntlet to be the champ but in the record books TCU will always be the national finalist and the runner up.
