Does the transfer portal change how a coach uses his freshman in terms of saving eligibility? If you think I kid is gonna be great do you also think he has a high potential to transfer?
Jalen Johnson was making some noise in practice but the I saw him with a knee brace and not practicing. Doesn't look like he will be playing anytime soon bit I don't have anymore details.

What day was that?
I don't remember exact date but it was in my practice notes threads. At least the last week or so of open practices.

I too am curious on Lafayette. They have at least 4 S they will play. Even if he doesn't start he will get action, imho.

As for #1 RB I really think that no 1 RB will get 20 carries. Think rotation of players. Hammock will use 4 and maybe 5 RBs (Credle was getting mentions in today's presser. He was on sidelines the last practice though).

He will get a team mismatched by changing players often and then have the O take advantage.

RE: two deep question
There are 59 players appearing on the depth chart. Not accounting for redshirts there are:
13 freshmen
32 sophs
6 juniors
8 seniors

Of the freshmen there are 4 true freshmen; R Williams, Myles, Alvarado and Credle.

Like coach said; it is still a young team. (but experienced)

GO HUSKIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Take Ester for example…a sophomore…who has already played in 3 seasons. This team is pretty darn “old” to be honest. Maybe my eyes are bad…is Lafayette still a freshman? This team is going to win a lot of games for awhile.

Better if it never happened, but in reality the Covid year hit this team at a perfect time In its development

Yeah COVID year was a free year and then he redshirted last year. Rudolph will only be a sophomore in 2023 lol.

I doubt all these guys play all of their eligibility, but still.

RE: two deep question
The bad news flip side of this is after (if not before) the 2024 season Thomas Hammock is going to be a sought after coach. Even though this is his dream job, I see him leaving for a BIG MONEY P5 (or whatever it will be called then) gig.

There should be NIL for coaches. Then Fatty's could name a 2-lb. hamburger for him, and some company could create "The Thomas" hammock - for relaxing at home or at tailgates. That would keep him here. If that doesn't work, we need to start a bronze statue fund.

Showing my age here, but when I was a kid I recall starting tacked the size of our starting TEs. If this team isn’t built to run, no team is ever built to run.

Looking back at past Huskie teams. Those teams were sized and looked like good MAC football teams. This team looks like a Big Ten team in size. It's crazy.

Corners over 5'5. Everyone on that O line is over 300 lbs, except for the freshman Nygra. It's impressive for him to bring in this size and speed to the MAC. Especially being running based, no MAC team is set up to stop us.

Oh 100%. The D line looks the part as well. No 5’11 DTs here. Ends who are huge? Just wild for NIU.

Truly a thing of beautiful. Each class he brings in, is more impressive than the last. Lots of exciting athletes.

Can't remember which presason college football magazine this quote came from. It was either Athlon or Lindy's.

Hammock seems to have recognized that. The transfers seem to have been more athletic guys.

RE: two deep question
I was looking at a college football magazine and compared the sizes of the projected offensive lines in the MAC. There were a couple or a few that were smaller than NIU but seems like most of the MAC has pretty big O-lines, comparable to NIU's, or maybe slightly larger on average.

New depth chart for Tulsa game...

No changes on offense.

Defensive changes:

- No more Rashon Myles as 3rd LB behind Rayner & King
- Other LB spot now says Pugh OR Rattin, and no more Alvarado behind them
- Huskie is Dolphin & Lafayette instead of Hansen
- CB is Cyrus McGarrell behind Gandy on one side, and Rogers OR Byrd on the other, no Prophete
- Safeties are Brown and Jammeh again, but this time with Frye and Hansen behind them as opposed to Lafayette, White, & Frye last week.

Oh good. That ought to fix the defense.

Huskie feels like a matchup position, makes sense. It’s a 4-3 defense until it becomes a weird nickel with a safety playing the huskie.

Let’s see if they can fight the urge of blitzing the safety playing the huskie and blitz rattin or rayner.

Switching Hansen w/ Lafayette, and playing Rattin & Rogers more should tighten things up. Disguising coverages and playing more zone than man should eliminate Tulsa being able to dictate matchups the way EIU did vs Rayner w/ #3. Those changes, playing with more intensity, and hopefully tackling better should be enough to give the offense a chance to go out and win the game for them.

There were no injuries in last game, correct? I haven't seen anything in any news articles. So seems we are healthy after week 1 (minus the preseason injuries).
