This probably comes across as pretty ruthless but the NCAA is a leech on CFB’s biggest programs and I venture to say there’s some resentment in sharing CFP money (and a NY6 slot) with them.

The ultimatum would be simple, let the 5 of us be in a class of our own or we leave. I think it would be a pretty easy call for the NCAA to sell out those 5 leagues in order to keep from losing all the big basketball programs in the P2/M3.

Autobids for your 5 conference champs and then 5-7 at large berths is a pretty easy sell.

No, because they do have schools that are affiliates in other sports for that conference. Big 12 have a lot of schools from the G5 and FCS to help sponsor certain sports like men's werstling. The goal is to splt the whole FBS for all sports from the FCS/1AAA because they think those schools are leaches, but mainly the 1AAA schools like the Big East and WCC are the biggest ones out there.

I'd rather the NCAA go "cafeteria plan", best summed up as "so what if you want to play top tier men's soccer and women's volleyball, second tier football, and third tier softball" and that's all.

Put another way: Instead of picking a level for your entire athletic department and being forced into N sport sponsorships, you pick sports to sponsor and at what level, and there's no minimum number of sports you must sponsor. (Obviously you must comply with Federal Title IX law.)

You pick and sponsor the sports that your demographics care about.

I say it would lead to more fiscal responsibility.

It's way more personal than that.

It would seem to me that cutting the G5 out of the CFP revenue pie would be a huge coup for the big teams and if they can do so within the NCAA, that’s convenient for them. If the NCAA won’t legislate it for them, then they have to do the leg work of breaking away but end up with an even greater financial windfall when they can fully monetize basketball.

If you're not splitting off the college basketball income---whats the point for the P5? The P5 already have autonomy. The P5 pretty much dictates the CFP terms already. The only reason the G5 was ever getting a playoff slot was that the public wanted it and the networks probably thought it would increase interest in a segment of college football fandom that was less likely to watch a playoff system where over half the teams were excluded before the first game of the year had even been played. The only reason the P5 would ever agree to a guaranteed G5 slot is if didnt cost them anything---and maybe even made the whole package a little more lucrative. But---in this new college football landscape---its probably time to forget the P5 when it comes to designing the playoff. The P2 is the group making all the calls. Everyone else is just trying to be included.

I said no. They will get antitrust claims against them if they do. The plan is to split FBS from the rest of D1 which means G5 are going with the P5 schools.

Why should Eastern Michigan be brought along but not say, VCU or Gonzaga?

What's the deal, Dave? How are UC Santa Barbara, VCU, Gonzaga and Creighton all leeches? Is it because we don't play football??

The G5 serves a purpose like that FCS game still on the books for football. P5 benefit from both the G5 and FCS games to buff up win loss records.
