RE: UteNation: Pac-10 schools expected to stay together
This is actually pretty good. Let both conferences go to the open market with the current configuration. The west coast time zone and west coast fan bases are gonna be one hell of a monkey on the PACs back for their contract. I see Big 12 doing better, and then we revisit schools reaching out to Big 12 in a few years. With that said, overall this is better for the CFP negotiations, because it is better to have 3 conferences countering the B1G/SEC than 2 during CFP negotiations.

Doubt they’ll add anyone. Can’t afford to dilute the TV deal.
But if they did add San Diego State and wanted a #12 the simplest solution may be Hawaii for football only. We tick all of the academic and institutional boxes, have a new $400 million stadium coming, offer the Week Zero exemption and another time zone (suitable for broadcast to Asia and Australia), and would be less expensive than a full member.
Okay, pitch over.
I agree Hawaii would be great. But why football only? Hawaii does bring a crowd for the other sports. Hawaii would be a full member or not at all.
That would be my dream honestly. I’m just thinking that a lot of the Olympic sports coaches in the conference would be averse to the travel, and so a football-only membership would be more palatable at the outset. Maybe after a few years our other sports would be welcomed as well, especially if we could improve our hoops performance and win a couple of BWC men’s basketball titles.

Might as well take you for all sports. If PAC has a hard time considering SDSU +1 then I'm sure looking bush league w/ a fb only member makes it look far worse.
I’ve always said it (or at least thought it): You, sir, are a gentleman and a scholar.

SDSU and CSU or BYU to get back to 12. Then hold until Washington and Oregon get picked off in the next realignment move by the BIG-2 - SEC & B10. The PAC could take SDSU alone to stay at 11 with the new division less CFP arrangement or just stand alone at 10 until the B-12 divides the Texas and Oklahoma spoils when they depart. Then the PAC could take another run at OK St., Baylor, TT, Kansas, KSU, and TCU again.

Odds are more likely we are in the "quiet phase" of more PAC teams negotiating with the B1G. Then ~4 more make their move there, unless the B1G wants a land-bridge so take ~6.
Last teams, who can, join the Big XII. Hopefully all (thus a merger), but any still leftbehind then merge with the MWC under the PAC name to retain all its assets.

I said at the begining, either a few switch very quickly to B12 or they stand pat. They have 2 options once that decision is made stay at 10, or add 2.
If the Big had taken 2 more a full blown merger would have made sense. With 22 teams involved not so much.

Basically the USC/UCLA move was a tease and now wait 14 years before resolving this entire mess.

Question for you, Fresno St. alum, are people in LA able to listen to radio stations in Bakersfield??
Agreed on Hawaii. They should be in the PAC for all sports. Once they get some new, decent football stadium, they should check all of the boxes for the PAC.
Generally no. Between Bakersfield and LA is the Tehachapi Mountain Range which goes up to 8,000 ft and generally inhibits radio stations from easily passing.

SDSU's move to a downsized 35,000 seat stadium was a case of unfortunate timing.
