Bass retirement is next April ? Hopefully they look around and don't just promote without a search . The best candidate might be in place now but it never hurts to make sure . The landscape seems to be moving everyday now and it take someone with a strong work ethic .

Sounds like 919 (maybe “Gary”) up there is gonna submit your resume for you. Best of luck!

Mullet, Hoops…co-ad’s. I’ve found the solution for all the issues at UNCW! They can also serve as the basketball and baseball coaches. Saves money!

Tiffany wasn't hired as the next successor. She was given a chance to prove herself for being a candidate for the job. I know she has put the work in as far as exposure. She's been at most all sporting events. Even when the rest of the staff and the staff of the Seahawk Club just disappeared during a stretch in the baseball season. She looks to be a hard worker. But this is not an automatic. You never know who might pop up on the radar. I would though, consider her as a worthy candidate.

I nominate the Gary Miller / Keatts ticket.

G has all the inside contacts, loves him some Kevin, and well… Kevin is gonna need a job in April 2023.

Not sure that job pays enough at this point and it's a ton of work to get it up and running like it should be !! Is that negative enough ? If not I have plenty more to throw at it !!

Tiffany is doing an amazing job. The athletes love her, she’s present with them, engages and has the right tools to get our teams to the next level. There’s no guarantee, but if she gets her shot at it she’d really do great things for UNCW.

If the the new A is not a dynamic fund raiser who can build top notch facilities then it is a miss by what I want and think i necessary. My interaction with new Ad is that might not be her strength if it is then great. Bass missed a tremendous opportunity to make a mark on UNCW with a big capital campaign to bring us on par with other schools.

RE: Jimmy Bass Retiring
I think UNCW has grown beyond simply graduating our athletes with good grades. That should be the goal of every university. We need to devise a plan to increase our fan base beyond just our graduates, some locals and students.

Football? Is it a possibility to come in on a smaller budget ala Campbell? If WCU can support football, is there any reason to think UNCW can't?

If not football, baseball would be the place i'd put our efforts. Serious upgrades to the stands, box seats, corporate sponsorships, upgrade to the level needed to host a regional. Create a legit area to tailgate that isn't exclusive to Seahawk Club members and that can accomodate a whole lot of people.

Add on to the front of Trask to create a large area to get food, gear, gather? For the most part people love the atmosphere IN the basketball arena, but we are seriously lacking in the rest of the coliseum. I really hope we don't go for a new stadium that turns the student section into cushioned seats. At a minimum, keep the bleachers!

I'd argue they need to start with getting alumni more involved first. Compared to other universities, there is a very small percentage of alumni that actually get involved. I've seen many examples of UNCW alumni giving to wolfpack club, or Rams club etc, when they don't give a cent to UNCW. Example, My wife's college crew is a dozen deep, and not a single one of them is involved or even follows any of the teams or donates. Most of them do very well for themselves too and are mostly spread out between Raleigh and Charlotte. I think we need to start there, and the rest should certainly follow suit.

Football is usually the glue that holds together alumni and we don't have football. Think about. Every game is like an alumni reunion. People tailgating, running into old friends, meeting other alumni. It happens during the best weather of the year and only on weekends when people aren't working. We have to create that somehow. If it isn't football, the only real alternative I can see is baseball. Basketball season is during the worst weather and just doesn't lend itself to the atmosphere that football and baseball have in an outdoor stadium.

If a Chancellor and AD could come in and somehow get football off the ground, it would change the trajectory of UNCW.

I would not attend that level of uncw football at uncw. I would stay home and watch other college football or go to beach.

I'm in full agreement with 82 on this. Adding football to the landscape of ANY university, increases fan interaction amongst each other and fan involvement of the university in general.

We are all full well aware of the hesitancies, uphill battles, and cons.

At some point, it's gotta be addressed in a firm yes/no fasion. We can't deny the fact the university has grown to a point that it's a possibility though.

What level of football would you be referring to? Are you just assuming the team would never be successful? Look at what Coastal was able to accomplish this past season. You'd sit that out to watch UNC go 5-7 or 6-6 on the year? I'm not saying it's a guarantee UNCW would have a good football team, but I'm sure there's A LOT of UNCW alum and current students who would take the exact sentiment you just shared and apply it to the current basketball and baseball teams.

I'm sure there are others who feel the same as you, and there's a lot who would disagree and enjoy attending games.

I watch the best teams in the ncaa and never watch caa football. I am also max out on giving to uncw. I get 2 all sports passes every year. Uncw is having a hard time funding the sports we have now.

Oh boy! This thread ends up flogging the proverbial dead horse - football! Way to hijack it guys. The idea (pipe dream) of football has been argued ad nauseum on many previous threads. This is (or was) supposed to be about a retiring AD.

Well, we've covered the departing AD, discussed whatever we all know about the current potential replacement, and I'm not sure what else there would be to discuss on that specific topic.

Additionally, it seems logical that any incoming AD would likely need to at least contemplate the topic. Personally, I don't think it's something that would happen soon for a new AD though. Especially someone who is a brand new AD (never held that title anywhere else prior to UNCW), as it could kill their career if it doesn't work out. If it happens, IMO, it would need to be well into their tenure when they've established enough equity in their position to be able to handle it if it goes south on them.
