2022-2023 CUSA Basketball
It's early but we are starting to get a little clarity on rosters and schedules are slowly leaking out. Here is Bart Torvik's preseason T-Rank so far. CUSA looking to have a strong top again. Torvik's algorithm is surprisingly high on FAU. Hope that turns out to be accurate.

If WKU is in the bottom half of the league, this is gonna be one heck of a league.

If so, definitely a multibid league. Lol
I assume their prediction was before Sharp decided to stay and the great adds we got coming in.

Yep, and MT with 5 of top 6 players back, along with our big man who was out due to injury last season

7 teams in the Top 115 is going to make for some exciting basketball come conference play. We desperately need some signature wins OOC to give us all a head start in the NET rankings.

Personally I’d like to see more games against A10, WCC, AAC, MWC and Big East teams instead of P5.

I am absolutely fine with that. We all just need to beat the good teams (and definitely the bad teams) that are put in front of us. Our crowds have got to show up for our OOC home games and give our guys the edge.

Those ratings are highly suspect. He has Middle's projected effective talent as the 2nd lowest in the league (only ahead of FIU).
The ratings seem to be focused way too much on transfers if you ask me (and really more of who you bring in than who you lost). Looking at the 2022 Final Four, it's obvious that returning players are more significant than new transfers.

This feels like it’s been the case for about a decade now. We have good teams in the league year in and year out, but we cannot get consistent wins OOC. Sometimes a team would have a great year OOC(ODU comes to mind) but then takes a ton of bad losses in conference. More often, it was the opposite of this. What we really need is for teams like UAB and UNT and MTSU and WKU to all pick up 2-3 significant wins OOC. That is how our one bid league can get to 2-3.

Such a strange time for Tech. We go into the next academic year with new head coaches for both football and basketball.

UTEP lost essentially their entire roster but added some decent portal players. Just don't see how the top 4 isn't UAB, UNT, WKU, MTSU. All four of those teams have legit potential to stay in the top 100 wire to wire. La Tech without Lofton and a new coach will be interesting to watch.

It would be sad to see CUSA3.0 finally have its year the last year of its existence. It's also hard to know what to feel about Charlotte basketball this year, loosing Young is going to hurt. That being said it could be Ron's best year yet. Who knows?

RE: 2022-2023 CUSA Basketball
NEWS to me. According to Chris Massaro (MT AD) in the interview linked in another thread basketball will have a TWENTY game full round robin schedule this year!
Thoughts?
Reactions?
I am a little surprised but OK with the decision.
Hopefully the bottom three left from last year (UTSA, RICE, FIU) can improve so as not to weigh the league down.

RE: 2022-2023 CUSA Basketball
To me, the oddest part is how do you create a 20-game schedule with 11 teams. Not who you're playing - that's obviously 2 games against every other team. But how do you create the conference schedule? You'd think there would be 5 groups of travel partners (say UTEP and UTSA, Rice and UNT, FIU and FAU, and WKU and MTSU seem like obvious groups - but then who is grouped among La Tech, UAB and Charlotte). Maybe Charlotte is the odd one left out. If that's how it shakes down, it seems like they will have a much different schedule than the other teams.
I guess I need to look at how some 11-team conferences that played 20 games last year (the Big East? the MAAC). Some of the other 11-team conferences didn't play 20 game conference schedules. And if you think about it, those two conferences are much closer in proximity than CUSA, so it's a lot easier to play games on different days of the week (less travel involved).

Ballard is still the coach. He started the season fairly good, had UGA on the ropes in a early road games and seemed unbeatable at home until ODU came down to Miami. So I can understand Scott Carr giving him another year.
