Crime rate is 224% higher than the national average
Property crimes are 191% higher
Violent crime is 400% higher
Ah! Home of Elvis, the Blues, and many other touristy, fun things to do and see. But wait. Fun fact about Memphis—it has the highest crime rate in the entire country. For the entirety of 2018, a total of 54,453 crimes were reported just in Memphis! The total crime rate there is approximately 224% higher than the national average and property crimes rose to 191% higher than national rates.
The violent crime rate, however, is what has us the most worried. That number rose to more than 400% higher than the national average, meaning that there is a 1 in 12 chance of becoming a victim of crime there. In our research, we discovered that not only is Nashville the happiest city in Tennessee, but it's most definitely the safer choice.

Agree with it or not, this is why I carry everywhere I go.

Of course the bottom line in any decision is money, and you better have pockets full of it if you move to Nashville.

Nashville is too close to East Tennessee. You couldn't pay me to live east or south of Memphis. Period.
meh....Misery is where you make it. Miserables are gonna seek out misery to moan about or point at no matter where they live.
All emotions release an addictive brain chemical, especially the strong emotions.
But if you point somewhere else, even when you don't live there, and call that place miserable...then you feel a slight release of your own misery....because you get off on that brain chemical.
We may be products of our environment...but we are slaves to our own brain chemicals. lmao
it all comes back to us.
that sucks don't it...

I suppose it depends on the data they’re using, perspective, etc. Regardless, I’ve always felt that most of these lists are lazy journalism, etc. You can always find one to fit your narrative. Below is another. This company has a “Best Cities to Live” list for every state.
Methodology - We ranked a total of 2,509 qualified cities (those with populations above 25,000 and enough data for analysis) by five factors: employment (number of establishments, median earnings); housing (owner-occupied housing with a mortgage, monthly housing costs); quality of life (work commute, poverty levels); education (percentage with a bachelor’s degree or higher); and health (obesity ratios).
1) Franklin
2) Millington
3) Germantown
4) Brentwood
5) Collierville

Nashville would have been a great place to move 20 or 30 years ago. I'd move to Chattanooga in a heartbeat given the opportunity.

I lived in Nashville about 6 years ago - before moving back to the Memphis area.
I'm a rare bird in these parts who enjoy both cities.
Nashville living was good for me, and Memphis is too.
"They" certainly do some things better than "we" do - and we do some things better than them.

It's a Subaru. I've ridden in it.
Get out of here, that's a good vehicle.
I never said it wasn't. Still waiting on a reply.
A friend of my who lives just north of San Diego is traveling north and mentioned he was in Furnace Creek the other day and it was $8.84.
Other than the beautiful scenery of NorCal the main difference I see as opposed to the South of Memphis comment is the lack of blacks in NorCal. Of course we don't have the mindless wandering zombie hippies with dreadlocks like they do up there so maybe that's why she is opposed to wanting to live here?
