ABOUT THE CHANTS
• Coastal Carolina hits the road for a three-game weekend series on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday versus Appalachian State at Boone, N.C.
• Coastal is 16-13-1 overall and 5-6-1 in Sun Belt Conference play after being swept by the Georgia State Panthers last weekend (April 8-10).
• The Chants return to the road where they are 5-7 overall but have won each of their last three road games, having swept Arkansas State in Jonesboro, Ark. (April 1-3).
• The Chanticleers are hitting just .276 this season with 35 home runs, five triples, 52 doubles, 187 RBIs, and 212 runs scored.
• The bullpen has posted a 5.02 ERA and fanned 283 batters over 260 innings pitched. The Chants are also holding their opponents to a .257 batting average on the year but have given up 32 home runs, two triples, and 41 doubles on the season.
• Over the last two weeks, which included two Sun Belt weekend series, the Chants have hit just .266 with 34 RBIs and 43 runs scored in the six conference games.
• The Chanticleer arms have gone 3-3 with one save and a 4.50 ERA over the last six games, allowing 38 runs on 48 hits, 23 walks, and 71 strikeouts over 54.0 innings pitched.

ABOUT THE MOUNTAINEERS
• Appalachian State enters the series with the Chanticleers at 11-19 overall, 3-9 in Sun Belt Conference, and 4-6 home this season.
• The Mountaineers snapped a six-game losing skid, all of which were losses in conference play, with a 17-9 home win over the High Point Panthers on Tuesday (April 12).
• The App State offense is hitting .249 with 18 home runs, seven triples, 47 doubles, 144 RBIs, and 156 runs scored.
• At the plate, the Mountaineers have struck out 255 times compared to just 104 walks and stolen just 19 bases out of 28 stolen attempts.
• The pitching staff has posted a 5.62 ERA, having allowed 165 earned runs over 264.0 innings pitched, and has struck out 262 hitters compared to 158 walks on the season.

ALL-TIME SERIES HISTORY WITH APPALACHIAN STATE
• Coastal Carolina leads the all-time series with Appalachian State at 9-2 overall, including going 2-1 all-time in Boone, N.C.
• The Chanticleers won the first two meetings between the two teams in 2002 and 2016 before joining the Sun Belt Conference in 2017 and winning each of the first five conference contests between the two teams to give Coastal a seven-game win streak.
• Since the seven-game win streak by the Chants, the two teams have split the last four games at 2-2, trading wins back-and-forth.
• CCU has won each of the three Sun Belt Conference series between the two teams since 2017.

Why on earth is CUSA sending teams to opposite division schools on Easter weekend?

With all we’ve witnessed over the past seven months concerning CUSA decision making, what would make you think they’d make a sensible decision?

I was mildly surprised because usually the conference lets the coaches decide scheduling stuff on Easter Weekend. The SBC used to go through this for years where we played on Easter all the time, and when we finally moved off it was made clear the coaches voted to switch to the Thursday-Saturday vs Geographic Rival system.

Of course, It's naive of me to assume CUSA would let their schools pick stuff like that.

RE: Sun Belt Baseball April 14th-16th
To be somewhat fair CUSA doesn’t have baseball divisions this year. But UAB and LaTech are closer than a flight to FIU for us and would make more sense to play this weekend.

But it’s also our second weekend in a row requiring a flight to go on the road, and we play 10 conference series. We play back to back weekends at home in May. Not setting it up so everyone alternates home and away for each conference weekend makes no sense.

RE: Sun Belt Baseball April 14th-16th
This week is what’s known as it won’t surprise me no matter what happens.
USA sweeps Troy? Yeah it could happen.
USA wins the series 2-1? Yeah it could happen.
Troy wins the series 2-1? Yeah it could happen.
Troy sweeps USA? Yeah it could happen.
A brawl breaks out? Yeah it could happen.
Only 1 or 2 games get played? Yeah it could happen.
A player batting .100 on the season goes 14 of 15 with 12 RBIs? Yeah it could happen.
One team sweeps the other only to lose to the other in the SBC Tournament? Yeah it could happen.

This is one of those series where you aren’t surprised no matter what happens. Go Jags!

I know some travel Soccer teams that are doing tournaments this weekend as well.

Travel teams in youth sports are serious business. I know a kid who was kicked off his travel ball team because they held a tournament on Mothers Day, and his parents wanted him to spend it with aging grandparents instead.

That's crazy. And ya, it gets intense. My son wants to play travel with some of his frienss but we're keeping him in Pony and on the select team for now. If he still wants to play when he's 11 or 12 we will make the jump. But he's having fun and still playing some better kids without all the stress and huge commitment.

The streak doesn't want to go down without a fight. UALR scores 3 with 2 outs in the 8th to cut it to a 5-4 AState lead, heading to the 9th.

3 outs from ending the streak.
