RE: Potential MAC Expansion Timeline
OK. My purpose was to flip the "WKU-and-who" theme to "UMass-and-who", all-sports and no fb-only adds (been there, done that) to see how creative some could be. Temple was a first shot and, as IWokeUpLikeThis points out, a clear miss. So who else might be out there?
The above ASSUMES a "wake-up" by UMass that a) they need a conference, and b) nobody really wants to go through that fb-only mess again. The MAC clearly showed that when they gave UMass an all-sports or nothing choice. UMass chose nothing. The 2019 article referenced earlier notes UMass seemed to have joined itself at the hip with whatever UConn's strategy is/was. Again, this current thread chapter ASSUMES UMass has seen UConn is not the "leader" they thought it was.
(Example: In football UConn future schedules show they will play 12 P5s; UMass has 7 scheduled. UConn will play 2 MAC schools 6 times; UMass will play 18 times against half a dozen members. Also, the annual UMass-UConn fb game is listed every year.)
That's a lot of assuming and, of course, realignment, NIL and the portal have shown how rapidly things can change. Now there's talk of no divisions required for a CCG. But since it's the off-season, and this thread will never go away, I turned it around to see what anyone might suggest. Or not.

I think the MAC could be waiting for the NCAA Rule changes before deciding on expansion. I’m OK with our current 12 teams. But if we do add, I would hope to keep a tight footprint (Kentucky, Illinois, or Indiana).

It was the divisional or conference round robin for a CCG that made 13 non viable in the long run. It also created pressure that any expansion place Toledo and Bowling Green in the same division.
