good for him. i always wondered how he'd look on a good team somewhere else.

In a Detroit News article today quoting his Dad, the 2 main reasons his son's hitting the portal is the potential to make a lot of NIL money at a Power 5 Program and to play in a "big time environment" unlike he has experienced over his 4 year career playing at Calihan Hall. While Mike Davis was shocked about his son's decision, he understands why he has decided to transfer.

Any reasons given for why he'd portal vs. declare?

The article didn't say anything about declaring for the draft. As his Father put it, up until a few days ago, he was planning on his son returning for his 5th Season.

From talks/chatter on Twitter it looks like ryan is killing it down wherever he’s training at (does anyone know where’s he’s training?)?

RE: Ryan Rollins Declaring for NBA Draft
From rollins Instagram post a couple days ago looks like he’s training in Dallas,Texas with highly coveted trainer Tim Martin, who also trains trae young, tyrese maxey, Myles turner just to name a few. Also theirs an interview on Twitter detailing how the process has been for him, and the training he’s been doing. Overall sounds like Ryan is going to stay in this years draft, if he does well at the combine next month I think he can sneak into the first round.

Yep, definitely wasn't expecting it when he initially declared, but he seems to be gaining some pretty solid pre-combine traction.

It's amazing the talent that it takes to make an NBA team. In football, second round is a lock. In basketball, it's promising development. Don't really want to lose the kid but I think all Rocket fans would get a tickle if he made first round and wish him, don't let the door hit ya!, lol

A rocket starting in the NBA almost makes up for not making the Dance. Youd see NBA jerseys in Savage galore. Also a celebrity hopefully walking around the concourse signing autographs would be swell.

Naw, we'd be doing the same thing as with Candle. With all those future pros on the team, how could he NOT have...... Jerseys would be selling for sure though.

RE: Ryan Rollins Declaring for NBA Draft
While the full list of names have not yet been released, several College Players have reportedly been invited to the 2022 NBA Draft Combine that begins May 18th in Chicago. Those names include Ron Harper (Rutgers), Mousa Diabate (Michigan), Josh Minott (Memphis), Jaylen Williams (Arkansas), and Julian Champagnie (St. Johns).

They are among the 60 players that are invited by NBA teams to the Combine along with the next 40 player invitees who will participate in the G League Elite Camp that also takes place in Chicago a couple of days prior to the Combine. The most highly rated G League Camp participants are usually asked to stay over for the NBA Combine.
At the Combine, NBA Team Executives and Scouts will watch players participate in various athletic tests and shooting drills along with playing 5-on-5 scrimmages.

It will be interesting to see which NBA event Ryan Rollins gets invited to and how he performs as that will go a long way in determining whether he stays in the Draft or comes back for another season with The Rockets!

Big indeed, huge chance to prove himself against good competition! Was also ranked 41 on Bleacher Reports top 50 big board as of yesterday (5/4)! Gaining some momentum, inspiring stuff inside the Rollins camp!

This invite will give him a great opportunity to showcase his abilities to NBA Executives and Scouts. After the Combine, he'll have until June 1st to pull out of the NBA Draft to maintain his college eligibility. How he performs in Chicago, combined with the feedback he gets from NBA teams, should give him some valuable feedback that will help him make an informed decision whatever that may be!

How does this time up with the last days to portal or can we at least declare that angst over?

It’s either NBA or back to Toledo for rollins, I think the deadline to enter the transfer portal and be eligible immediately was April 30, if rollins was to transfer now I believe he would have to sit out a year unless granted a waiver. But rollins always said that he’s a Toledo guy and wasn’t even thinking about the portal, which I have to respect these days.

That's special to hear, "a Toledo guy." I think there will be a lot of people at that combine trying to bend ears with a lot of offers. The timing maybe keeps temptation at bay.

We had this board discussion before, how high does a recruit have to go before it's time to leave? Some were saying it has to be first. I thought second, not seeing much chance a player will rise to the next round after a year in the MAC, given there is another wave of players to compete with also. Nice problem to have.
