Surprised that Howland at Miss. St. being fired hasn't been mentioned on this board. Wonder how D. J. Jefferies is feeling now.

Is the firing confirmed?
There were rumors Sunday, but MSU refuted those rumors and said Howland was coaching the NIT.
I think they play tomorrow.

Maybe Howland is gunning for 3 straight NIT final 4s in Starkghanistan like he had 3 straight NCAA final 4s in LA

I like DJ but he really hasn’t gotten any better in 3 years. Just never has been consistent

I feel like DJ has all the talent in the world, but just doesn't have that killer instinct to go with that talent.

Despite lack of progression he could still be a major contributor for us.

I’d rather have Cam Matthews over DJ.
I know his stats aren’t great but still…

Agreed...

DJs issues are more mental than physical...He has to want to be great.

Agree.. rather have that kid Matthews.

I believe Howland underachieved considering he brought a great class this year.. he got Garrison Brooks from North Carolina.. Added DJ from Memphis.. He already had Molinar and Matthews.. He finished with a losing SEC record.

I still can't believe we lost to Georgia.. They finished last in the SEC with a 1-17 and overall record 6-26.

Keith Easterwood had predicted that DJ would be a star. Maybe coming back would have the same effect it had on Tyler?

May be this time around DJ wouldn't take being a Tiger for granted.

There were some people here that pushed hard for Howland to become our coach. Never been a fan. Not surprised he's gone.

he's not a glamor guy on offense.
His recruiting isn't all that flashy (with the exception of Westbrook and Love at UCLA)...he's kinda meh personality-wise.
It is hard to build a winner at a school like Mississippi State..but not impossible.
If it can be done at places like Texas Tech...it can be done in Starkvegas.

Our defense was all over the place at the time. We were trying to play the scrambling/full court style we like to play, but we weren’t very good at it. It led to too many easy buckets and open 3s. We also fouled them way too much. UGA shot 35 FTs.

I dunno. Tech recruits Texas and California. State recruits Mississippi and Alabama. Huge advantage Tech.
