Another reason to keep Seattle in the WAC is that the HS talent in the state for hoops is amazing.

Gotcha. Here’s to 100 more pages of mostly retread nonsense, I guess. 07-coffee3

Well, in about 2 weeks, all the WAC basketball teams will be done playing. Unless you’re talking baseball, there won’t be much to talk about.

I know this is a me problem, as I'm not a big baseball/softball fan, but I really wish soccer was a spring sport.

Yet, although not actually or visibly shown, but one division consists of only Texas schools, and the other division consists of the schools in the Western US. Should the WAC expand for a 14th school after the departures of Sam Houston State and New Mexico State, it has to be in the Western states, probably a D-II callup for full membership (with football and basketball as main priorities, to help keep football its automatic bid for the FCS playoffs).

In a perfect world, SU would find another conference and tighten up geography a bit. If not, yes, hope you can find a school in New Mexico or further west to “balance” out the divisions. However, it’s slim pickings out west and I don’t know of any serious candidates to move from D2 and it’s highly unlikely any Big Sky, Big West, or WCC team would join the WAC at this point.

Then within a few years from now (if possible), the WAC will be destined to be doomed again for sponsoring football in case an FBS conference like the Sun Belt or C-USA to raid another football school to join (like a Stephen F. Austin or a Tarleton State) in case they can't get upto over the 7 school requirment to keep the sport with the automatic bid since the sport returned back to the conference.

And speaking of such, it reminds me of a similar predicament that a southeast based conference like the A-Sun might face if they would lose another school (football-spekked or basketball-spekked alike) to an FBS conference (like an Eastern Kentucky or sorts; or even a Bellarmine to either the Horizon or the OVC); and that conference will recently debut football for the upcoming school year (2022-23).

I'm surprised that there aren't any D-II schools from the west that are yet willing to move up, like a Colorado State-Pueblo, who's most known success was winning a national title in football back in 2014 representing the RMAC, (plus a streak of 8 conference titles from 2011 to 2018, consistently a playoff contender during the 2010's, and with a few select successful years of 10 win during that decade), but with moderate success on men's basketball and baseball. Other schools that would be considerable are Colorado Mines (the 2nd best football school in the RMAC and current conference champs in recent years) or Black Hills State (recently successful in men's basketball, but outside the WAC footprint) or Fort Lewis or Metro State-Denver.

On a sidenote, any chance to see a school like Denver (non-football) or Northern Colorado (with football) to be a candidate to join the WAC?

Any and all of the schools you have mentioned have been discussed a thousand times over many years. You are not bringing anything new to the conversation.

Which WAC teams do you follow and how many WAC games did you watch last year?

I would respectfully decline to answer that because that's beside my point. The point I was referring prior was related in a standpoint if I was a staff member of that conference. Look at some other conferences, who once had over 12 core member schools and later got raided by other conferences, for only to be under the minimum requirement marks for a conference to have a certain amount of teams to maintain or retain their automatic bids.

Provide your sources that say the WAC is simply sitting around and watching what is happening.

I just want to know what your interest is? Why would a Florida State fan care what is going on in the WAC? Are WAC fans going to the ACC board and suggesting the ACC try to expand with South Florida and Kansas?

Midwestern State, now a member of the Texas Tech system is planning on building an on campus football stadium. They have been a very successful football program for a long time in D2. They are one of the smaller D2 Texas schools when compared to Angelo State or WTAMU. MSU and Tarleton had a strong rivalry. Wichita Falls has a population of just over 100k. Not sure what their long term goals are now that they are part of Texas Tech with a new President at MSU

I do not think MSU has much of a chance at moving up honestly. Tech struggles to upgrade its own facilities and does not have the money to pour into MSU what is needed to upgrade. Only UT and AM system schools have that luxury, and even then, that is contingent on UT/AM blessing and support to do so, which is by no means automatic. Raising fees as Tarleton did is also necessary and may not be popular among the students to do so in many schools.

More importantly, DII move ups do not help the AQ problem at least for 4 years and the WAC may not have the luxury of waiting that long if it loses another school. Football wise, The WAC is hanging on by a thread now that Sam, and now Lamar announced their intent to leave and UIW's decision hanging in the balance. The WAC/ASUN may have to form a separate football only conference like the MVFC just to have enough teams to have an AQ spot and DII move ups and current transitioning schools such as Commerce would not really help matters.

Unless UVU/GCU/UTA add football, which is highly unlikely, than WAC Football is in serious jeopardy. Even with RGV supposedly adding FB, that will not come into fruition until 2025 at the earliest. Currently, the WAC has only 3 Football schools eligible for the playoff, 4 if UIW comes on board. And Tarleton and Utah Tech still have 2 more seasons to play before they are eligible. Right now, I really cant see and western FCS schools joining the WAC and the ASUN is basically in the same boat football wise. It would behoove both conferences to merge (Football wise only) and create a football conference.

What about D1 SUU. UIW is not gone yet. And UT-RGV looks pretty certain for 2025. Could Northern Colorado be a possibility? They are already D1.

UTRGV has already approved football - I do not understand what you are not getting on that front. The student vote passed and their timeline is still very much intact to add both football and women's swimming and diving.

UIW has already come on board for 2022 - there is no backing out for the current season and you also have Lamar for '22 to go with Southern Utah, Abilene Christian and Stephen F Austin. Tarleton & Utah Tech are presently not eligible but that could change pending an NCAA vote on the matter.

2023 has UIW (as of now), Southern Utah, Abilene Christian, Stephen F Austin, Tarleton State and Utah Tech (as far as 'eligible' schools). That's six and that's the minimum you need. Hopefully you can bridge that until UTRGV joins to get you to seven in 2025.

The WAC as with the rest of the leagues are waiting for the Transformation Committee to say what's what. This could open door to Division II schools being more willing to move up to FCS/Division I just as much as it could open the door to C-USA making the invite to Tarleton, Eastern Kentucky or whomever
