It's probably accurate to say that Trump's presence in office deterred Putin from militarily moving on Ukraine. But not because Trump was an Alpha Male tuff guy that Putin feared.

It's because Trump was so Moscow-friendly in acquiescing to everything on Putin's wish list, including weakening NATO and potentially pulling out of it during a second term, that Putin didn't want to mess with a good thing.

Though I think Putin miscalculated... He could've went through with his plan earlier. I don't think invading Ukraine would've upset that relationship at all.
