Tyson Summers is the new DC at WKU
I'd like to start by saying that GS wasn't in the Sunbelt when yall left and so we as a whole have no issue with your school. Would have been cool to have yall as conference mates. When yall are clicking, yall click HARD. 04-cheers

That being said, ladies and gentlemen, imo this is concerning. Tyson Summers (along with our AD) absolutely trashed our football program in 2016 and has seemed to be somewhat of a black thumb everywhere since.

You know my thoughts about this hire. What are YOUR thoughts about this hire?

P.S. - this isn't another CUSA vs SBC thread. Let's keep it that way.

Things didn't work out for him as a head coach, but he has a pretty good resume to be their DC.

I'm not sure how much you can read into his failure at HC. Lots of former HCs go on to have successful careers elsewhere. Brad Lambert was fired from Charlotte and then was a great DC at Marshall.

Agreed. Some guys just aren't suited for a HC job on their first try. Being a Head Coach is totally different than being a position or coordinator coach. It takes a totally different skillset and personality. With that said, I'm hopeful he will be a good fit at DC but I don't know much about him. I imagine as he learns and grows, he takes all that he's learned thru success and failure over his many stints at multiple colleges, he will again be a HC somewhere someday.

I mean he doesn't really have a high ceiling to surpass our prior DCs. WKU has never been known for shut down Defenses in our FBS era. If he is like everyone else we have had, we will struggle in secondary first 6 or 7 games than get it together to finish season. Crum was just average to me, so shouldn't be too much to surpass. One of best corners left to be a Gopher and losing 2 sold DL including a NFL draft pick in Malone. Otherwise he has several DL coming back and that was the strength last season. Need to improve LB wise and hope Ignot overcomes injury as he was good last season and him being out really hurt us against the Roadrunners in title game last season.

Summers was an awful head coach and one of the worst hires in our history but he has had some good experience as a DC. I will say several of his recruits ended up being really good for us on the defensive side of the ball especially at LB.

Good luck.

Wasn't impressed with his defensive scheme either, however he did recruit some talented guys on that side of the ball.

He was amazing at UCF. Doesn't appear his defenses have been great since.

Exactly. If you're hiring a defensive coordinator then look at his resume as a defensive coordinator, not a head coach.

He was DC for one year at UCF. I think people get confused about his history there.

I see now. His wiki bio says he was DC all three years, but you have to read the actual insert to see the label in the sidebar is wrong.
