I am a firm believer that a minor league of football would help the NFL and can be successful - just no one has solved the puzzle for it yet. maybe the new USFL will. (i will just watch the CFL when it comes back)
DP, I think I can logically (inductive or deductive reasoning?) figure out the puzzle.
The basic concept for a minor league, be it baseball, hockey, basketball (Gee the G-League came in handy for Covid roster additions), etc. is:
The minor league NEEDS to play their season during the same time as the major league season.
Second, preferably, the players play on a team with a contractual association with the major league team.
Using Detroit (not Washington
) as an example:
1) Tigers have their AAA team 50 miles away in Toledo.
2). Pistons have their G-League team an Uber ride away.
And taking it a step further. The G-League Cruise players don't need to move or do anything. As non-invasive move as possible. The MC Cruise is essentially a practice squad which plays a schedule against similar teams.
EDIT: I'd like to revise and extend my remarks (as they say in Congress):
There is NO appetite for minor league FB during the fall season. Why? There is NFL and there are several hundred D-I college teams. Once can live in any state and have D-I football.
