I’ve told him twice today.

Gaither has pitched great and remains in the game into the 7th. He’s closing in on 100 pitches though.

Benton replaces Gaither after 7 shutout innings.

Yep, got it done. Hope we get the bats rolling tomorrow and still keep the pitching rolling.

Rutgers, our opponent in the 2 PM doubleheader tomorrow, entered today 3-0. They just wrapped up what appears to be a football game @ Coastal moments ago. The Chanticleers won, 15-10.

Sales couldn’t make it out of the 2nd inning and was replaced by Shafer. Good thing we didn’t have to use too much of our pen last night!

8-1. Hawks finally to bat in the bottom of the 3rd.


RU has sent at least 7 men to the plate in each of their first 3 turns at bat.

They are hitting the cover off the ball. They can flat out hit and thus far we can’t beat their bats even ahead in the count.

At least we have Chenault going in game 2 to try and salvage a split. I think you save Hudak and Phelan for game 2 and we still have closers available for 1 inning each.

No reason whatsoever to be giving up on this game already. Only the 4th inning, RU’s bullpen isn’t great, and we’ve come back from much bigger deficits in program history.

I get the idea of “hedging” and saving the better relief pitchers for game 2. We should certainly do that. But it’s far too early to suggest it’s over.

Well don’t blame the pitching and defense in this one. We have suddenly gone into a hitting slump. Rutgers pitched it well. They are very good.
