That is Below Tubby level recruiting...I doubt this was completely Noahs decision.
Well the 233rd ranked recruit was the on the only recruit we had signed or committed and marks the 2nd or 3rd decommitment with this class. If this were the only instance we had others in place then most would not blink an eye but that is not the case.
While I agree not having anyone signed is not great.
If we cannot replace a #233 ranked recruit we are in trouble. I would hope this was mutual. Essentially Memphis saying you didn't develop like we thought you would

Sure. We are just seeing this from different perspectives. Again, on a singular basis I 100% agree with you. It is not a big deal to lose a recruit with his ranking.
However, we have lost 3 other highly rated recruits from the same class and replaced those 4 losses with ZERO other players. I am not looking at this loss as a singular event but rather what is becoming a possible trend that directly correlates with lack of winning and complete locker room dysfunction.
Make no mistake, the guys on this team are all still in contact with their AAU buddies… Nothing stays internal.

Morris was a highly rated recruit...Left when Knox committed...Waaay before the season...A full year ago.
Knox was 150ish...Left in October...Before the season
Batchelor was 233
Zocko 198 decommitted in September...Before the season...
I don't think these guys left because of how we played this year...And it wouldnt seem like guys cared how we played last year as we signed the #1 class.
But it does seem strange that no one is even committed...But I am not familiar with signing periods and cold periods and all of that other recruiting stuff.
My main point is those guys outside of Morris likely would not be contributors. The three redshirts this year all rank higher than them. Even if none transfers out we would have been in a world of hurt next year if Knox, Batchelor and Zocko was our class...Unless the returning guys improve and after this season I have stopped expecting that.

Just stop. There's no place here for rationality, reason or logic.

3 of the top 10 recruits in next years class were at one point either signed with Memphis (Morris) or heavy Memphis leans (Yohan and Livingston).... they all signed elsewhere and we have 4 decommits with no signees. That is concerning and a direct result of Penny failing to meet expectations by a long shot. Top talent wants to play for winners.

Comments from Batchelor indicate the staff deprioritized him, and then easily let him out of his NLI.
That doesn't sound like a staff desperate for recruits.

People trying to make this more than it is...
We lost 3 guys before the season...
1 guy was a top recruit...He left in January after we singed the 150th PG
Knox 150 left before the season
Zocko 198 left before the season
and the 233rd recruit left during the season...Batchelor just screams they let him go because they thought he would continue to get better and It didn't happen.
None of this seems like kids running from Penny due to performance...

Maybe not but there are zero kids committed which doesn’t suggest kids running to Penny either at this point…

Lots of drama being stirred up by John Martin and Geoff this week on this. Some buy into it. I don't.
Truth is, we allowed Batchelor to walk. And I'm guessing Penny is waiting to see what the team looks like, as there are a lot of ?? about returnees. Then he will hit the portal hard and probably look to steal a late HS kid or 2.
Someone calls it "pulling a rabbit out of the hat". They must not have paid attention to recruiting the last 3 years.

just my take...
Assuming Duren leaves we have 11 returning players, and this assumes that harris or Alo don't ask for or receive a 5th year. i would expect a couple of the current guys transfer out, but who knows. So, we need 4 new players at the most.
Penny gets transfers.. look for a PG and a big to transfer in, and a couple of freshmen in the 50-100 rankings.
i don't like having no one committed for next year, but i'm not worried about it. too many here see shout the absolute worst possible outcome as likely, and are saying all the redshirts are leaving, Minot and Nolley are leaving, even Q.. If you listen to some of the "fans" on this board we start next year with Dandridge, Timberlake and Jr. as the only returning players, sorry.. i don't see it. Toward the end Finch was taking any Juco who would transfer in just to fill the roster and to listen to this board that's what Penny is going to do. nonsense. When you sign 150+ level recruits a year early you expect a significant number of them to never get here.

Well, nobody has said that. Also, facts are facts whether we like them or not...
We have 0 recruits signed and or committed...
We had 1 and just decommitted because Penny was rarely in contact with him, the recruits actual words, not an opinion of mine...
At this point we are hoping for a homerun type recruit which honestly has not worked out well for Penny thus far. Or we hoping to basically use the transfer portal as our form of new player recruitment which seems pretty high risk...
0 recruits signed. Fact
1 decommited. Fact
Reason the kid gave.....ok, we'll say fact
We have an abnormally deep team, with additional red-shirted players. I'm just not panicked. Are we dying for something to discuss? Or are some of us actually concerned? Genuinely asking. At face value and with no behind-the-scenes knowledge, what's there to stress about on the recruiting front? Penny always pulls a recruiting rabbit out of his hat.
I wouldn't count on anyone returning next year unless it's ALo and Dandridge. Anyone else on the roster could be enticed away in the current environment we find ourselves. I'm not saying we will lose everyone or even anyone, I'm simply stating that the way things are these days it's a whole lot easier to take your ball and go to another playground.
Do we know Alo & MD are returning?
I've heard from more than one that Alo will be returning... on the coaching staff.
