Why is Washe suspended or whatever and for how long?

Why is Paul Washe not playing?
We don’t know why and it’s currently indefinite. Rhett Kingston has also left the team but we don’t know if that’s related or just because he wasn’t getting ice time.

RE: Why is Paul Washe not playing?
It's not unusual to see a player (any team) suspended for a game or a series. Longer than that appears more ominous and makes one wonder if it could be permanent. However, if that were the case I would think it would be known by now.

His presence was missed last night.

Offense is there but we really need to step up the D tonight. UMD has scored 11 on us in three games.

I know this thread is Paul Washe related but it looks like Rhett Kingston ended up at Suny Plattsburgh a NCAA D3 program.

It's kind of ridiculous to not say what is happening, just come out with it and be done!

I guess they don't think it's any of our business.

WMU's Washe Facing Criminal Charges For Sexual Misconduct
CHN Staff Report

Western Michigan captain Paul Washe, who was suspended indefinitely by the team in January, was arraigned today in Michigan's 8th District Court on 3rd degree charges of criminal sexual conduct.

Following Washe's suspension, the team had declined to comment on the reasons for the move. Western Michigan officials said today they were "aware of the charges."

Third degree criminal sexual conduct in the state of Michigan typically refers to either sex with a minor, ages 13 to 16, or forced or coerced sexual penetration.

Washe, 23, is a native of Clarkston, Mich. He is in his fifth year with the Broncos and had 8-5—13 in 19 games this season before the suspension. He last played Dec. 29. In five seasons, he has 37-37—74 in 140 games

Wow!!! This is an eye opener.

Hoping for the best for this guy.

So this happened 12/5/21, so the victim must have spoke up and said something because he played in the Michigan State game at the end of December.

Not trying to downplay this any but I know these 5th year guys are probably on cruise control this year taking easy classes and I know they like to have a good time on weekends, I'm thinking this was probably one dumb drunk decision.

I made thousands of dumb drunk decisions at WMU, but they never involved

* Victims aged 13-16
* Use of force or coercion to accomplish sexual penetration
* knowledge that the other party is mentally incapacitated or physically helpless during sex

Sticking your penls in someone who is not awake is always EXTREMELY stupid.

Yeah no. Rape is never "one dumb drunk decision" especially if he's found guilty.

I get that but I would almost guarantee alcohol was involved and was probably a factor is what I am trying to get at.

I work in the legal field, so again, I am not downplaying rape or anything like this as this is so serious but the point I was trying to make was that he was probably intoxicated.

You also don't get charged-arraigned unless Prosecutors strongly believe they have a provable case.

Washe may be going away for awhile, and I don't mean just from the rink.

Bad look for Bronco Hockey, but worse for him.

And if he was intoxicated - that excuses his criminal behavior, how?!?!

OMG! MI 3rd degree CSC is broadly defined as “sexual penetration with a 13 - 16 year old minor”. Yeah…pretty sure he’s done. Sad story all the way around.

Or "force or coercion". In this case sounds like alcohol, he claims consensual, victim claims not. He's a piece of **** and this probably happens way more than we know on college campuses.

At the very least i'm happy the school seems to have handled it well and not waited for the story to come out.

Same and now I get why Fersch was so "pissed off" and mad each time he was asked about it, this just explains it.

I'm not defending him. But, can we try not to hurl insults at him. His brother still plays for the Broncos. This is a sad story for everyone involved. He's done playing hockey for WMU. That's the only thing we know for sure.
