WBb vs Hofstra 1/28/22
After a long 4 game road trip the Dukes finally get back to the friendly confines of the AUBC for tonights game against the Hofstra Pride. Dukes are on a 2 game win streak and are looking to extend that this evening.

Wife and I will be heading out in a bit to make the trip down to the AUBC. Hope to see a nice crowd tonight.

Go Dukes!!

Brian

Hofstra is in the cellar of the CAA, but those teams can be dangerous. Let's hope their lion is toothless tonight.

Have to say...the Women have been improving each game. It is a big improvement from the beginning of the season after UVA.

RE: WBb vs Hofstra 1/28/22
Not quite understanding a few things that went on tonight even though it was a win, 65-53. It didn't seem like the defense was quite all there, for one thing. Too many times Hofstra just ran right through it. Obviously they were missing Neff, but there were a few times it looked like Steph was trying to play like her instead of just being herself and it really did not work. And Tinsley, who had the hot hand in the first half, barely played at all in the second, which seemed odd to us. Hopefully she didn't get hurt. Also wondered why Pittman, who I would think would be perfect against a team like Hofstra, never even took her jacket off. Is she injured or sick? And what the cornbread he** was that double T about anyway? Those referees were absolutely the bargain basement of the CAA! They were probably the worst I've seen since I've been here!
I do have to credit Hofstra for their pesky defense. What they can do with what they have, they do well. They just don't have quite enough. But those teams in the cellar can sometimes climb the stairs and bite you when you're not looking.
Congratulations to Kiki Jefferson on joining the 1000 point club! Great achievement, young lady!

A win is a win is a win. Team is back to .500 on the season (9-9) and 5-2 in conference.

I’m hoping that the women (like the men) can finish strong and post a final win total in the 17+ Range. Given the continued scheduling oddity created by COVID plus all the injuries, I’d consider a winning record for the women and men of 17+ wins successful, and a basis for optimism next year.

Can ANYONE elaborate on that double T? It was ridiculous in the extreme. I guess it was a case of "You dare question mah authoritah?" Lord, where do they get these refs, and why do they keep sending them to AUBC? At least next year they may be bad, but it will be a different bad.

RE: WBb vs Hofstra 1/28/22
I agree with both O-to-P and Longhorn. The team seemed lethargic at times last night and I was afraid that they had decided to mimic the MBB defense from Thursday night. Several times the Hofstra player was left wide open for an easy shot. Offensively it took forever for them to be able to hit their shots. Lots of them were at point-blank range but just would not fall.

I have no idea what brought on the double technical. It was on a play that could have been called on either player, so all I can think of is both players said something the referee found offensive. I give the referee crew a C- for last night. They let Hofstra slide on a few plays but they also missed some travels and moving screens by JMU.

That being said, high fives and a zillion kudos to Kiki for becoming a member of the 1000-point club. She has worked very hard for her success and hopefully now that she has scored those points, the pressure will be off of her and she can just play her game.

As Longhorn said, a win is a win is a win. Claire was on the bench looking in pretty good shape so hopefully her surgery will be a perfect success for her. I thought Maddie was the star last night, hitting some clutch shots and had some outstanding defensive plays (including a block against a player several inches taller than her). Jaylin did not score much but her eight rebounds were important. Now is the time for them to pull their game up a notch and play together as a team, not five individuals. I am encouraged by seeing larger numbers of assists.

Northeastern, coached by former JMU Assistant Bridgette Mitchell, comes to the AUB tomorrow. As I used to say to Coach Krista when she brought her Hofstra teams to JMU, before the game I hug you, after the game I hug you but once the whistle blows, you are the enemy!! Hope to see lots of folks there tomorrow.

Northeastern came darn close to beating Towson last night. They are NOT gonna be happy campers coming tomorrow. Besides that, Coach Mitchell knows our plays and schemes. It will be tough.

I agree with you about Maddie. She really pulled her game up a notch last night. That block was a wowzer!
