RE: CAA Welcomes Monmouth, Hampton, and Stony Brook as New Members
-i realize i make a good living...although i'm not a dermatologist or plastic surgeon...but $12.50 per month shouldn't break the bank. that's around $60 if you just it for the basketball season. years ago i used to pay $7-10 for one game because i had to buy a month subscription from some random school. on top of what i get for sprint car racing and caa football...some of us don't live in southeastern pa and each trip into philly is conservatively $30 in gas/tolls alone.

"aunt flo" is my favorite aunt.

-agree the games shouldn't be buried within high school games. they are not hard to find though. use the search bar or click the right area. it's not hard.

-what more do you need to see a game is between drexel and william & mary...for example...then the drexel and william & mary logos? we're an engineering school. you should be able to figure it out.

-i've watched multiple games after they started. click on the feed without looking at the score...click at the very beginning of the feed...then work your way back to the start of the game. again...we're an engineering school...figure it out.

-i googled espn+ and a funny thing happened. people are whining about the same nonsense with espn+.

-everybody rips flo for the feeds. each school runs them...so you're blaming the wrong people. like it's not flo's fault elon has a really annoying play by play announcer for their women's team.

i get tired of certain things getting popular to pick on, everybody piling on, and then nobody calling out the nonsense because picking on it is so much fun. nobody is going to happy with our tv unless we're live on abc. and guess what? WE'RE THE CAA! it will never happen. you have to adjust your expectations.

you have to excuse me because i have to go watch the women's basketball team on flo...after years of not being able to watch our road games. i agree an ideal situation was the free package from the caa. everybody is trying to make money off streaming these days so that went away.

halftime of the women's game. what should i watch on flo? so many options to choose from.

i could check out one of the other games in the league since they're all listed on the right side of the screen (just the logos though...just a heads up).

or i could see how denise dillon and the villanova women's team is doing. i was planning all week to drive over there but...you know what?...it's nice to sit on my couch and watch all these games on flo.

Are they looking for a uncw rep?

I'll say nice things about them for money on the UNCW board

yeah...i'm starting to think i should demand some money. wait until racing picks up again which is actually this week down in florida.

i just want the criticism to be constructive. that's all. like i'll say that last night i put on the bucknell-loyola game just because it happened to be on cbs sports network. did i leave it on for more than 5 minutes? no.
did i mostly put it on because bucknell isn't too far from me and i just wanted to look at the arena for a bit? yes. lehigh is down at loyola in a few weeks and i might go down to see the game. i was already thinking about it but seeing the game on tv doesn't hurt.

the caa does put game on that network...but i can't argue that burying our game on a subscription service hurts our exposure.

My biggest complaints about Flo directly are price and exposure

They advertise $12.50/month but unless you use the super special CAA link to get the $12.50/month price you will find it to be $30/month I believe. $12.50 isn't going to fly for casual fans.

If right off the bat they offered everyone the $7/month price that I got when I listed solohawks@uncw.edu as my email address it would have been better received.

The price is a big part of the lack of exposure. Casual fans have greater access to ESPN+ thanks to the Disney Bundle.

Basically, no one has Flo and no one is going to get Flo unless they are truly a hard-core fan

Considering that Aunt Flo doesn't advertise her product, she's surely not hiring secret salespeople to promote her product on social media.

So will Stony Brook's AD go on a major rant to get picked up by the national media blasting the America East for how awful the league is and the other Presidents are? How dare that big, bad America East keep their student athletes from competing?

EDIT...
Stony Brook put out pretty much the exact same statement that JMU did by blaming everyone but themselves for the postseason ban.
Quote:"Following our announcement that we will move to the Colonial Athletic Association, we were extremely disappointed to be informed by the America East that Stony Brook student-athletes would not be allowed to compete for conference championships and therefore the opportunity to earn NCAA team automatic qualification," Stony Brook athletics director Shawn Heilbron said.

"This decision does nothing to advance the interests of the conference, but instead punishes Stony Brook University's talented student-athletes and runs contrary to the decision that the Board of Presidents made last spring when the University of Hartford announced they were leaving the conference. As a result, Stony Brook plans to review all options, legal and otherwise, to address this decision."

To an extent, it's apples and oranges. The postseason ban is in the CAA's bylaws, whereas the AE bylaws only state that the presidents vote on the matter.

Regardless, it remains a dumb rule, even if it's technically been applied the way it's supposed to.

I totally get that we voted for BU ban, but in view of last couple of years of Covid and how much student-athletes suffered, I really wish AE presidents took a different stance. Our MBB has no chance vs Vermont, but really feel for WBB team.

Believe I saw somewhere the SBU president (or other big wig) mention trying to get the rule abolished in the AE, and if not there, the CAA. Here's hoping there's movement on it once the new three are officially in since it does nothing but generate bad press (even if only for a day or two) and doesn't hurt any of the actual decision makers.

Quite possibly right from what we hear. That would answer the call for the southern teams who are concerned that the league is going too far north.

On tonight's broadcast, they touched upon another team joining the league but said they couldn't say too much about it.

NC A&T votes Friday. It is weird to have 13 teams.. there has to be one more Southern team getting added right to get to 14

There's definitely another shoe waiting to drop. My guess it's another southern-leaning school. I'm hoping we can finally snag Howard, or that it's a basketball-centric add like Winthrop.

If the league wants to go into the HBCU market, then Howard seems to make the most sense. They have the biggest name recognition of the HBCU's so must likely would have the most drawing power and be the most attractive name to assist with a new TV contract. At least that's how I see it.

However, with Hampton and NC isn't that too many HBCU's and from the same conference unless that is the plan.
