That fact that UT could potentially be in this situation, looking for a new HC, and not have an AD in place is a major sign of incompetence

I’m not sure it would be a bad thing to have Kehres takeover. Look at his record at MU. He’s already experienced as a HC and obviously knows recruiting

Agree this give Kehres a year to prove he is up to the job and gives the AD a chance to see if no change is necessary or line up "Their Boy" if one exists.

How is MOB choosing to retirement next April a sign of incompetence on behalf of UT?

Weird, must be a bad job as candidates keep turning down offers to me OC at Miami. Clearly Candle must know 2022 season is get to MACC or he's done at UT.

Next month seems very optimistic for new AD-possible by end of February but into March is more more likely, it takes time to decide on semi-finalists for Zoom interviews and schedule on campus visits, plus negotiate offer letters

Some notes from the Blah:
-sources say he was offered a three-year deal that would have paid him in the range of $1.5-1.8 million per season
-He sought an extension this week from university president Dr. Gregory Postel but was rebuffed

With a new AD on the way, it wouldn't be wise for Postel to extend a contract before he gets here.

So if Miami said yes and UT said no, it seems strange that he wouldn't take the Miami job.

IF Coach Weiner is elevated to OC - watch out for Tucker Gleason coming on strong to be the starter next season.
Coach Kuligowski can pull from some of his connections to replace Larry Black and what ever other positions become available.
I think Vince Marrow would be a good candidate to replace Candle if they don’t fill internally. He is know as one fo the best recruiters in the country
That would be a great hire when the time comes. Pinkel was the OC at Washington before being named Toledo's head coach. Saban was DB coach for Houston Oilers before coming to Toledo. Kehres might be the best man for the job, but we should at least look at other candidates. As long as we're considering coordinators from G5 schools, can we at least consider one from a school that wins conference championships?

The Blade article says that Candle feels the team will have a great year this upcoming season which will give him a new contract. Maybe. But with a dysfunctional OL and no coaching replacement, along with poor game management and questionable play calling, not sure. I want the Rockets to win, but Candle out. Quite a conundrum.

I'm puzzled why Miami would want someone who stumbles in every big they coach, and is the head coach of the most penalized team in the nation. I wish he would have left. I will give him this, he stands by his belief that Toledo is good team and will win. I will stand by and say with Candle as coach, this program will continue to disappoint.

seems like odd take and statement by Candle, but if he truly believes that and is staying to get to MACC than so be it- if it happens, great for all of us...just not so sure the rest of us are that optimistic, can't blame him for making that commitment and expectation on the season-suppose as HC that should be his view (at least publicly and in front of team), up to him to take risk and pass on good other job and risk getting fired in December.

Plus the three good RB's we once had are gone. We have a couple promising receivers, but QB is going to have to show a LOT of progress by next season. You could see Woodside make huge strides year-over-year and I don't see that with Finn. He can sure run, but again, OL. Finn cannot carry the whole thing himself. Neither can the defense.
I don't know what Candle thinks he's going to have a great season with.
