RE: Pre-season College Baseball Polls
Unsurprisingly, Rice received no votes. We can hope that changes as the year progresses.

I think your expectations for this year is a bit too high. Hopefully, we'll be well inside the Top 100 this year, which would be a massive improvement over the past two seasons. However, I really don't see us in Top 50 conversations until 2023 (Year 2 of the Cruz era).

As will the early March series against Tech at Reckling.

Pretty worthless ranking based on last year's W-L record.

The Collegiate Baseball rankings is usually a joke. However, I do think there's relative consensus over the Top 5. I know D1Baseball is also leaning toward UT at #1.

While I share enthusiastically everyone's confidence in the medium-term and longer under Coach Cruz, this particular observation about our present and immediate future seems even more depressing than the football threads!

Regardless of how we are ranked, Rice Baseball will be much more successful at pounding the rock than other teams seem to be.

Oh I don't know. I don't see us ranked inside the top 50 of football in the foreseeable future... and we may not sniff inside the top 100 next year... even if we go to a bowl.

George, seriously, why do your find this depressing? I'm being realistically optimistic in my expectations. I think we'll be well over .500 this year (with 30+ wins) and much more competitive in games. In year 2, I expect we'll be in a position to compete for the conference title and, perhaps, be a borderline post-season team...and in year 3 I fully expect us to be a viable post-season program once again, and a Top 25-35 caliber squad. Let's not forget that many of the recent recruiting commits are for the classes of 2023 and '24.

I thought it was fairly obvious, but anyway...
I find it depressing that Rice baseball was allowed to get to a point where "being inside the Top 100" in the coming year has to be characterized as "hopeful".

Oh for Pete's sake, George-- stop being so sensitive. I was not being obnoxious. But if you're truly more depressed with the realization that baseball will not likely be Top 50 or post-season bound this year than you are with our football program then I'm not sure where you've been the past 3 seasons. With your response above, YOU are the one trying to pick a fight.
