Good place for this - Did you guys see the new OT rule that happened in the Ala - Aub game Saturday? I HATE IT. It made the outcome seem more gimmicky/random

On the third round of OT (if score is still even after first two rounds). They simple set the ball at the extra point line and each team has one shot at a 2pt conversion per round. It continues on in a one play sequence until there is a make and miss in the same round.

Hate it so much. I was ok with the changes they made to start from the 25 and each team gets a possession. While it takes away some of the aspects of football, it's still football. The change to make the 3rd OT just start from the extra point spot is just too much.

To me, it's too close to soccer shootouts, the absolute worst OT although its exciting. Soccer shootouts are like deciding a basketball game with a slam dunk competition.

Definitely. I really think the best thing to do, both NFL and college, is to play one, then if needed a second, 10-minute overtime (the whole thing, not sudden death) then just call it a tie.

The Washington kicker pulled a hamstring trying to chase down the returner so they had to go for it on 4th down a couple of times when in FG range and go for 2 after TDs. The 2pt return on failed XPs is a fairly recent rule change as the play used to be blown dead and was mentioned as such on the broadcast.

Believe it or not there is such a thing as a 1 point safety that can occur on XP attempts. It has happened a few times in college football. Basically the kick is blocked, the ball is recovered by the defense, carried into their own end zone, and then gets tackled. There are other theoretical ways it could happen, but practically impossible.

In theory it can happen in reverse, but is even more unlikely. The offensive team could technically go backwards and be tackled in their own end zone. As you noted it has happened in college including the 2013 Fiesta Bowl where Kansas State player was tackled in end zone and the kicking team Oregon received a point.

First you start at the 25, then you start at the 25 and have to go for two if you score a TD, then you trade two point conversions. Supposedly it was done to reduce the number of plays in games to "support the student athletes" which is silly for a number of reasons:

1. This will only impact games that go into several OTs
2. If you want to reduce number of plays, then just eliminate OT and bring ties back!

Yeah I hate it and agree it gets to the point it isn't real football and gets a lot more lucky, random, and favoring specific strengths. Reminds me of when the NHL went to 3-on-3 OT. It's fun to watch and fun to play, it's nice to have less games going to a shootout, but it's almost as gimmicky and far from real hockey as the shootout is.

I hate ties so I'm glad neither went back to ties, but I think the old OT was fine for college football and 4-on-4 was fine for the NHL.

I would pay good money to watch 3-on-3 hockey. That's a blast. When I get rich, I'm gonna start a 3-on-3 minor league. :-)

RE: Weird play against the Skins Monday night
I haven't read all the comments, so if someone already brought this up...sorry.

There is also such a thing as a one point safety. If on an extra point try, a team possesses the ball outside of their own endzone, in the field of play, and is then downed/tackled inside their endzone the non-possessing team is awarded one point. The most likely way for this to happen--the team trying the extra point (or going for 2) turns over the ball on the try outside the endzone. The defender who gets the ball then makes a football move and winds up in the endzone where he is tackled.

That seems like it would be way more fun than the current traffic jam version of hockey and would lead to a lot more scoring, which is what the game lacks now, as does soccer. I would love to see 3-on-3 hockey. Where do you go to see this?

NHL regular season OT is 5 minutes of 3-on-3... Other than that I don't know if there's much of anywhere to watch it. It's entertaining as hell but it's not really real hockey and there's a lot more luck involved. It's a blast to play too, when the NHL went to 3-on-3 regular season OT, Charlottesville also went to 3-on-3 OT in the playoffs. My team had a few of them, which was the only time I've played full ice 3-on-3 and man it was a ton of fun.

Hockey doesn't lack scoring anywhere near to the point soccer does. The average right now is 5.88 goals per game, think of each goal like a touchdown and that's a 6 touchdown or 42 point game.

NHL All-Star Game(s) are also 3-on-3. The players represent their division as opposed to the conference and it's played tournament style. Unless it's changed again.

haha can't believe I forgot about that, yeah as far as I know they're still sticking with 3-on-3 for All-Star weekend.
