Do not open this can of worms. I mentioned the poor attendance when App played them and stAte fans accused me of being a dick.

Definitely a difference between asking and rubbing it in/sh*t talking about it in the middle of a game

I posted after the game was over. It was out of shock, and I wasn't trying to rub it in. What's the point in kicking a non-rival school while they're down?

It’s a darn shame where we’ve sunk to…in 2012 we were 8-3, 7-1 headed into the last game of the year against MTSU. It was a defacto championship game…if MTSU were to win they would have the tie breaker over us and therefore win the Sun Belt. The game was on December 5th. We had 30,000+ legit fans in the stands…in DECEMBER. Winning brings the fans…and Jonesboro will come out if the team is good. Last year the team was weak and this year the team was worse…what do you expect for attendance when you lose for two straight years? BTW, it was a 45-0 massacre on behalf of the Red Wolves who went on to the Go Daddy bowl and beat then 25th ranked Kent State to finish 10-3.

RE: Say it ain’t so stAte
I’ve said this many times before and nobody cares.

There is no such thing as an “accurate” box score attendance number.

Newspapers across the country over the years have gone Woodward and Bernstein on this at various schools from G5 to P5 and breathlessly announced the unbelievable news that box score attendance counts tend to be heavy.

The NCAA plays along and produces a list of attendance based on box score counts but the NCAA doesn’t even use those numbers except to tout how much people love college football, or basketball or whatever.

For football there is a report filed by each college in February that has the official countable attendance and for most schools that number will be lower than what was reported in box scores and for a handful it will be higher because they secure purchases of tickets in round about ways.

No one even understands how attendance became a criteria for I-A/FBS.

When Division I was split into I-A and I-AA the criteria was number of sports sponsored but there were a handful of preferred schools who didn’t sponsor that many, so varying criteria for attendance was used as a fallback to keep those schools from being relegated.

A few years later when the powers wanted to try to talk Georgia and OU down from their lawsuit to bust up the NCAA football TV contract they needed to dump schools and dump them fast in order to reduce the number of schools sharing in the wealth to boost the wealth of the others.

The attendance criteria that had been an escape route became a noose to hang the Southland, Missouri Valley, Southern, etc.

People getting all worked up over attendance are just dupes falling for the power school scam of elitism. There is no attendance requirement in college basketball nor baseball nor softball nor the all important men’s college soccer.

What matters is whether or not the school CAN and WILL fund the sport to try to be competitive.

I said this when AState was at near capacity 9 years ago routing MTSU for the Sun Belt title and I say it now.

Following box score attendance is just toeing the line of the people who HATE you for even daring to try to compete with the royalty many of whose “earned” their spot simply by being in the right place at the right time 90 years ago.
