Automatic bid requirements
"NCAA rules state a conference must have at least six members to get an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. There has been concern, since Texas and Oklahoma set their planned departure to the SEC, that realignment could mean a net loss of one or more FBS conferences if it got out of control".
It was mentioned, on this board, that a conference must have 6 members, who have been with the league, for at least 5 years to qualify for a bid. I feel like I have heard this before, but have found no verification of this anywhere. If true, CUSA would lose its bid. Also, the Ohio Valley would be in danger of losing its bid if Murray State, Tenn State, and Tenn Tech were to leave. I believe Murray State is gone to the MVC, but have no idea if the other 2 might leave. Regardless, we would obviously would not want to join a conference with no automatic bid for the next 5 years.
Does anyone know if this "5 consecutive years" requirement is true? (this likely means you Chiefsfan).
