You don't really want that, do you?
I'd prefer that ECU goes to Fenway to play vs the ACC...but App/ECU would push tickets.

Depends on what the SBC's bowl contract says. I could see us filling Mobile and shorting Montgomery
Or, you guys could just lose to Troy this weekend and the issue is solved.
Was wondering if it could cause App, Coastal, and/or Louisiana to fill the Gasparilla and Boca Raton Bowls. Or, some bowl with C-USA tie-in like the Independence.

Yes, and guarantees App another bowl win.
I suppose I wouldn't be opposed to it.

Bonagura is still on the App State v. Missouri train in the Gasparilla Bowl. Not sure if he knows something, or nothing, but that would be great fun.

I bet 1/2 of the Herd fans in attendance have a condo there.
New Orleans Bowl vs UL would be fun I think!

I know it is CBS and they make weird predictions so I wouldn't put faith into this.
If that happens that would be my highest point pick in ESPN bowl picks using confidence points

Here's what I would like to see / think is realistic (assuming Troy also wins Sat.)
Louisiana vs UTSA - New Orleans Bowl
App State vs SMU - Cure Bowl
Coastal Carolina vs ECU - Myrtle Beach Bowl
Georgia State vs MAC (EMU/CMU/Toldeo) or C-USA (UAB/WKU)- Camellia Bowl
Troy vs EMU/CMU/Toledo - Lending Tree Bowl

Good news is the Lending Tree bowl in Mobile has been moved to Hancock Whitney Stadium instead of Ladd starting this season. I doubt we are beating Coastal this weekend to be bowl eligible. We need the additional practices more than the bowl game but it would be good for the players.

Yeah, if I remember correctly the CUSA Champ gets to choose which bowl they play in. I doubt they'd take a chance at losing to a Sun Belt school in NOLA.
I think the question is if Marshall wins the East, would they prefer playing in Florida or Myrtle Beach?

Not that it matters too much for bowl selection, but App State and ECU play in 2023, 2024, and 2026.

RE: Bowl Rumors
Yeah, I think UTSA is headed to Shreveport if they win CUSA.
A lot of predictions have Marshall coming to New Orleans to play the Cajuns, but what if WKU is the representative out of the East? Does that put the Hilltoppers in play for NO?
I think it's pretty much a slam dunk the Cajuns are headed to NO.
Gosh I remember our first trip there. We hadn't been to a bowl in 40 years and got matched up with SDSU. Set a NO Bowl record with over 42000 fans. Cajuns fell behind by one with a half minute to go. But the Cajuns managed a 50 yard field goal as time expired to get the win.
It's now been five years since the Cajuns have been in NO. Probably time to go back. If I'm not mistaken the five most attended games in NO Bowl history all involved the Cajuns (SDSU, ECU, Tulane, Nevada, So Miss)

I understand the affinity for the NO Bowl, but if y'all win the SBC Championship Game would you rather a P5 matchup in the Gasparilla Bowl or something similar?

What we would prefer is irrelevant. New Orleans can, and will, exercise an option which gives them the first pick. They will select the Cajuns.
And, our fans don't travel well. While a bowl like the Gasparilla would be great from an opponent standpoint, we wouldn't bring 500 fans to that game.

But, ESPN gets the first pick. So if there's not enough bowl eligible teams, it's possible ESPN fills the Gasparilla pool spot with UL or App.

RE: Bowl Rumors
If Herd can win the next two weeks and gets to pick their destination…
They should take the Independence Bowl vs BYU, or any other game offered up vs P5, then Florida bowl (recruiting), then NO bowl vs UL, then Myrtle Beach bowl.
In that order.
I know I-Bowl isn’t a grand stadium any longer, but at least the bowl has some history. And if you can get a decent opponent, I think the SBC should try to get it as a bowl.
Here’s what I’d like to see:
Regular season
———————-
Available first tier:
ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU Thursday/Friday Nights
ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, ABC Saturday Noon through Late night programming available.
————
ESPN+ All other content.
Post season
——————-
NY6/CFP:
Sugar Bowl
Orange Bowl
Rose Bowl
Fiesta Bowl
Cotton Bowl
Peach Bowl
SBC Bowl Affiliations:
(Primary or secondary, place in this group first)
*Independence Bowl vs SEC/BYU
*Liberty Bowl vs Big XII/SEC
*Fenway Bowl vs ACC
*Military Bowl vs ACC/Army/Navy/AFA
*Hawai’i Bowl vs PAC-12 or MWC
*First Responder Bowl vs ACC/Big XII/PAC-12
*Gasparilla Bowl vs ACC/PAC-12/SEC
*Armed Forces Bowl: Big XII/Army/Navy/AFA
*Birmingham Bowl vs SEC
(Place in this group after all slots above are taken)
*New Orleans Bowl vs Gof5
*Camellia Bowl vs Gof5
*Myrtle Beach Bowl vs Gof5
*Cure Bowl vs Gof5
*Boca Raton Bowl vs Gof5

New Orleans Bowl will always be an SBC bowl. Rather than upsetting a great bowl association we should work with them to get a better opponent for the Sun Belt to play.
