ESPN official this past weekend said they’d do everything possible to NOT have Coastal in the MB Bowl because it wouldn’t help tourism to the area which would make MB less likely to want to continue to sponsor in the future. Said even if Coastal fell to MB, they would likely try to make some kind of arrangement to send them elsewhere.

So Coastal to the Cure, App to Myrtle Beach to play UCF. Coastal playing ECU in Orlando.

App to the MB Bowl may not help with tourism all that much either- it could be a day trip only for many...

Idk. At the MB Bowl last year, it was packed with App fans. North Texas brought pretty much nobody. I imagine if the MB Bowl people had their druthers, their top 3 would be App, Marshall, and ECU followed by a Virginia team or Charlotte. I doubt most App fans would make that a single day/non-stay trip…it’s the week of Christmas after all and a lot of people don’t work that week, plus MB has a lot of Christmas shopping opportunities.

Could see the ODU vs Charlotte winner playing ECU in Myrtle.

A lot of predictions have Marshall coming to New Orleans to play the Cajuns, but what if WKU is the representative out of the East? Does that put the Hilltoppers in play for NO?

I think it's pretty much a slam dunk the Cajuns are headed to NO.

Gosh I remember our first trip there. We hadn't been to a bowl in 40 years and got matched up with SDSU. Set a NO Bowl record with over 42000 fans. Cajuns fell behind by one with a half minute to go. But the Cajuns managed a 50 yard field goal as time expired to get the win.

It's now been five years since the Cajuns have been in NO. Probably time to go back. If I'm not mistaken the five most attended games in NO Bowl history all involved the Cajuns (SDSU, ECU, Tulane, Nevada, So Miss)

I understand the affinity for the NO Bowl, but if y'all win the SBC Championship Game would you rather a P5 matchup in the Gasparilla Bowl or something similar?

What we would prefer is irrelevant. New Orleans can, and will, exercise an option which gives them the first pick. They will select the Cajuns.

And, our fans don't travel well. While a bowl like the Gasparilla would be great from an opponent standpoint, we wouldn't bring 500 fans to that game.

But, ESPN gets the first pick. So if there's not enough bowl eligible teams, it's possible ESPN fills the Gasparilla pool spot with UL or App.

You either didn't read my last post or didn't understand what I was saying, and for that I apologize for not being clearer.

In certain years, there is a clause in the contract with the NO Bowl that they can get the first pick. (That is per our AD in a radio interview). They WILL exercise that option this year and take the Cajuns. (my comment, not the AD.)

It's a lot further from Norfolk to Myrtle Beach than most people would think. Though if you have the time the drive down 17 is worth while, or you could island hop around the outer banks.

Okay. I was just saying based on the websites I read that ESPN gets the first pick and NO gets the second pick. Obviously, the UL AD would have more exclusive knowledge of how it works, but that option in the contract wasn't mentioned in the websites I read.

Oh ya, its sneaky long. Done it a few times. I used to live in the outer banks and done the drive a couple times and been to Top Sail and Wrightsville many times, one time on accident. Thats a in person story and involves the Miss Reef contest, tanks, and island hopping trying to find a break in the wind to cooperate with a south swell.

I don't want to talk about wind, swells, and small boats...or inlets for that matter...

I suppose that if you had a boat, time, and money then taking a ride down the beach could be fun, albeit long, cold, and bumpy. Some nice stops along the ICW in NC though.

The way I understand the contract, and its complicated, is while ESPN has the first pick, NOLA has the option to exercise its right to pick first a certain number of times within the contract. It is almost certain they will do so here to prevent the Cajuns from ending up in an ESPN tied bowl.

Remember, the Sun Belt as a league cares far more about getting teams to local bowls to boost ticket sales than they do getting to play the best possible matchup. To the conference office, UL playing Marshall or WKU in NOLA is more preferable than playing a 7 win ACC team in Tampa.

No boats. Too many dudes in a truck driving for 14 hours from island to island over night getting skunked. Getting lost too close to Lejeune during exercises at 2 or 3 am. "Let's check out S turn. Let's check out the pier. Let's check out the light house. Want to take the ferry and check there? Well, we're this far. Want to do Cedar Island? And so forth and so on.

You could fly down I think United has tickets from Norfolk to Myrtle for like 75-90 dollars. Extremely cheap tickets.

I know it is CBS and they make weird predictions so I wouldn't put faith into this.

I hope not. Would love to see Louisiana vs UTSA, I know you guys played last year but still. Now that would be a heck a ball game.

I think it would look a lot like the Liberty game. I'd hope Louisiana could draw an AAC opponent or Marshall. UTSA would be ideal for a number of reasons including cementing the Sun Belt over C-USA, as if it were a question to begin with. Marshall would be fun to watch with the conference changes. UTEP is not what I'd expect for a match-up of the Sun Belt Runner-up or Champion though.

I agree, I just think that assuming Louisiana wins out (I know you guys have something to say about that), then pitting the SBC champion vs a 3-4 loss team would suck. For me it would be about finding that matchup that puts our one-loss champion vs another one loss or undefeated champion. Houston, San Diego State I think would make for great games as well. Although UH will more than likely be a 2 loss team after facing Cincinatti.

RE: Bowl Rumors
Toledo and MTSU in the Bahamas Bowl.

One of these four teams could miss a bowl game now: Miami (OH), UNT, ODU, Liberty.

The other three will be ESPN properties in 2023. Liberty won't be. Could matter.
