RE: MAC Bowl Eligible Teams
I think it's either WMU, EMU or Toledo in Detroit. Selfishly, wouldn't mind seeing the Broncos in the Motor City. CMU probably guaranteed itself a nice-location bowl winning an 8th game and tying for 1st in the West.
The two least desirable spots, imo, are the Potato Bowl (freezing blue-turf tundra) and Barstool (only being streamed on their website).

RE: MAC Bowl Eligible Teams
NIU already played in Boise vs. Fresno back in 2010. We destroyed them after Jerry Kill left to take the Minnesota job. But finishing 1st or 2nd in the conference and going to Boise is not much of a reward. I'd rather us go somewhere warm.

Our last bowl was in 2018 in the Bahamas, and UT has been bowl eligible every year since. Mix it tf up.

RE: MAC Bowl Eligible Teams
NIU athletic administrator on the radio talking about MAC bowl games. Said we have a guaranteed six bowls for this season.
Said Arizona Bowl game has second choice from MAC.
Said the CFB playoff and New Year bowl games need to play out first.
Said NIU fans should know mid-afternoon on Sunday, Dec. 5th where we are headed.

Traditionally Mobile gets their pick of the litter. I bet Barstoole gets the biggest audience. Detroit close behind vs. B1G team.

My understanding is that the MAC is only occasionally sending a team to Mobile now.

https://voiceofmotown.com/west-virginia-...-eligible/
Quote:As first mentioned by Reddit’s College Football Account, West Virginia and Miami of Ohio both beat Long Island University, who was promoted from Division 2 and now plays in the FCS Northeast Conference. The Northeast Conference caps football scholarships at 45, which is below the 56.7 scholarships required to be counted towards bowl eligibility.
The official rule reads: “18.7.2.1.1 Each year, a Football Bowl Subdivision institution may count one victory against a Football Championship Subdivision opponent toward meeting the definition of a ‘deserving opponent’, provided the opponent has averaged 90 percent of the permissible maximum number of grants-in-aid per year in football during a rolling two-year period.”
Technically, Long Island University does not meet that requirement.
There are 82 bowl slots and 83 teams with 6+ wins. West Virginia, Miami (OH) and Hawaii (6-7) are the final three teams in terms of eligibility.
With that said, West Virginia is behind all of the other bowl eligible teams but ahead of Miami (OH) and Hawaii, and will get the very last bowl slot available. Miami (OH) and Hawaii will be left out.

Unless a school declines.

Makes sense if they don't "overlook" that rule. But yeah, WVU would get the nod over Miami. Unless WVU (or some other 6-6 team) doesn't feel like going to one.

Miami's win & West Virginia's win do count. Technically the way the rules read, it could be argued that only athletic scholarships count towards the required minimum, but it’s understood that you can count non-athletic aid. Basically the rule is just meant to stop FBS teams from trying to count Pioneer League and Ivy League teams towards bowl eligibility since they are non-scholarship.

Sucks because it feels like MTSU or ODU probably has the worst resume of the eligible teams... Miami got a rough draw OOC, and also crossoverwise. Not that there was a great 3 game slate for anyone in the East to take advantage of.

If you're trying to exclude non-scholarship/ low scholarship teams from counting, looking at non-athletic aid would be counter-intuitive.

RE: MAC Bowl Eligible Teams
With the waiver on the extra bowl (to replace the one approved but not actually launched), AFAIR, the fallback on one win over an FCS school even if they do NOT hit the scholarship limit kicks in. Then 6-7 (Hawaii), then 5 wins based on APR, which won't come into play.
So AFAIU, handily, by granting the waiver, the NCAA sidesteps the issue that the current APR list is not public and people have been looking at previous year figures.
