MBB: Michigan State
I am not trying to look past the Northern Kentucky game, but does anyone know if the Michigan State game is being broadcast? I don’t see the tv listing anywhere.

(I invited my sister’s family to come over on Saturday to watch the game together. My niece went to MSU, while her parents went to EMU. This is going to be a really boring get together if we are listening to it on WEMU)

No broadcast yet though that may change. MSU manhandled WMU.

I read somewhere it’s on the Big 10 Conference network.

I'm not sure if B1G Plus is streaming or over the air. I can check though. My DirecTV guide should go through Saturday.

EDIT: NOT clear. Remember that we are in the middle of both concomitant FB and MBB seasons so there could be scheduling issues.

The game is on BTN+, meaning if you have regular BTN you won't be able watch it unless you pay for a BTN+ subscription.

Sellers’, you are the man!! …I googled it, and MSU basketball Twitter confirms this. It checked into it further, and it only costs $14.95 for a one month subscription. So given I have 3 kids this is actually cheaper than going to the convocation center for a single game. Thanks so much!!

BTW, do you follow basketball too? I read your posts on football- very good ones, especially the bowl breakdowns and scenarios- but don’t recall any basketball posts.

Thanks, Ramy! I do, and actually one of my favorite memories from my time at EMU was the upset win over Cal! I follow football (overall just not EMU) more than hoops, so I don't really focus in on it until football is over. I was going to post something after the Indiana game (an exciting 2nd half, just kind of baffled as to why we didn't foul at the end), but then got too frustrated after the football game haha. Unfortunately I wasn't able to watch the Illinois State game, sounds like it was a great one.

I only have one kid for now, and he's too little to be interested, so my buddy and I found cheap tickets on stubhub and we'll be there at Breslin at Saturday...wearing the right green and white!

Before anyone pays the $14.99, you click on a team-specific subscription and select MSU it's only $9.99. So save those $5 everyone!

RE: MBB: Michigan State
Two seasons ago, I attended school MSU v. Rutgers game played at Rutgers.

Tom Izzo is considered a great coach having won two National Chamionships, but the offense was both boring and unimaginative. He had one talented PG who was a terrific offensive player but he created his own offense.

MSU had powerful bigs that dominated inside scoring often at the rim. The team rarely had run-outs off defensive rebounds. On defense, MSU did not apply a pressure defensive to force Rutgers turnovers. MSU played a stifling interior defense. EMU’s interior defense dominated and controlled the boards.

Found myself almost losing interest as the game was played very slowly with no flair.

We’re going to see two very different systems squaring off tomorrow at 5 pm.

. EMU’s HC Heath knows MSU’s offense since Heath was an Asst. Coach at MSU. Isso has never run a pro offense. Advantage Heath.

MSU is coming off a 15-13, 9-11 conference record last season.MSU has 2-1 record.

MSU lost it’s first game to Kansas, 87-74. MSU couldn’t stop Kansas from shooting 2’s at 53 percent.

MSU wiped out an undersized Western Michigan team, and alson beat an undersized Butler.

MSU averaged but 73.5 points against Kansas and Butler.

In the Butler game, MSU scored but but 32 points in the first half.

MSU has not faced a team as tall and big as EMU.

EMU has a tall and strong defensive front court.looked far better defensively playing NKY, than they did against Indiana. But ecmvrn Indiana avoided going inside very much choosing to shoot a lot of three, and not shooting them well. Must be remembered that Indiana only scored 68 points against EMU. and EMU outscored Indiana 43-32 in the second half.

EMU will need to rebound and keep their shooting fouls down in the game. Blocking shots would help as well.

Michigan State turns the ball over excessively and does not make many steals.

On offense, MSU shot two’s at 47 percent against Kansas.

MSU shoots three’s at only 30 percent. It’s two leading three point shooters are Brown and Christie . They are at best average three point shooters and take 4-6 three’s per game.

MSU!s starting line-up includes 6’7” Forward Gabe Brown. He’s MSU’s leading scorer at 15 ppg. Next leading scorer averages 10 ppg. and 6’6” SG Christie. Other starters are 6’3” PG Hoggard who’s a good shooter, 6’11” Center who averages 10 ppg, and 6’8” PF Marble .

MSU garners 12 offensive rebounds per game, 3-more offensive rebounds than their opponents do, but such was done against teams farcshorter than EMU.

MSU’s glaring weakness is it commits six more turnovers per game than it’s opponents. EMU needs to play a pressure defense and look for steals outside as well as inside.

Should be a competive game as EMU’s offensive system is a good one.

You are delusional and I thought Eastern was supposed to "win big" against Northern Kentucky?

Great point there, Bob "I welch on my bets" Weaselsham! Groce does NOT start for his team and in his LIMITED MINUTES outscores a guy you BET US $20K would be in the NBA this season, 15-2. I would proffer a double or nothing bet that Joey Hauser will not be in the NBA next year but based on your history any payoff would more likely from guys panhandling on expressway exits or downtown corners.

That said, I would want to deeply apologize to those panhandling folks, they might have a deeper knowledge of sport but more importantly I suspect they would have a greater commitment to fulfilling their stated obligations than you. Pitiful!

Why? Is Keno Davis coaching at MSU now?

I did text that Indiana may well win 6-8 points. Indiana won by 6-points. Believe they were huge favorites.

Anyone who watched and knows bb could see EMU a far better team. I also said EMU would beat the spread and they did.

NKY was favored by 8-points, but won by just point. EMU was up 12-points at the half and NJY had scored but 24 points. As EMU shut down NKY’s 3-point shooting which I said they had to do win in the game.

EMU would have maintained their huge lead if they did the same in the second half as I suggested. Instead, EMU didn’t defend against a 14 percent three point shooter coming into the game, that they should have as he shot 4-5 on three’s.also I assumed McBride would shoot a lot and he didn’t.

RE: MBB: Michigan State
Reposting a Tweet consistent with other posts on the streaming status of today's game. I'll save my money.

https://twitter.com/thevannzee/status/14...51042?s=20

Won't be listening to WEMU either. I'll be at church. I'm traveling tomorrow morning. I'll be in Vegas a week from tomorrow so if Miggy has a great call I'm all ears. "Miggy has been money" on EMU MBB.

I don't believe I've listened to one WEMU MBB in 2020 or '21 (I'm sure of 2021. Haven't lost my memory).

I have no idea how Tom Helmer is doing. Doubt he has borrowed Chad's signature calls, "Hoop and a harm." If Chad would come to D.C. and do Wizards (or G league) games. We have the famous "DC Three" call.

One thing WEMU probably didn't realize is that listeners are also really fans of personalities. Chad Bush for EMU hoops. Ari Shapiro on NPR. Long time EMU fans knew that John Fountain was synonymous with EMU sports. During the weeknight 9 p.m. cable news has larger than life TV personalities.

As I have posted before, sports fans, especially baseball and NFL, are used to having the same broadcasters for decades or even half a lifetime. John Madden, Pat Summerall, Al Michaels, etc. Ernie Harwell (40 years). Vince Scully (40 years, I think). Even the New York Yankees PA ANNOUNCER was a legend in N.Y. and the guy who sung the Canadian national anthem at the Montreal Canadian games was a legend.

I understand what happened with Mario Impemba and Rod Allen but I really miss them.

Folks love the great legendary broadcasters. Man, I hope sports doesn't go to text to speech broadcasting. "Farrakhan an elbow jumper from 15." "Monty Scott on the rebound." "Time out Eastern Michigan." (actually there were recreation of MLB games from the wire copy back in the early days of radio. "Kaline takes a pitch outside. One ball, no strikes.").
