RE: Week 11 Sunbelt Projections
Ga State at Coastal
If McCall plays, Coastal by 17, if he doesn't, Georgia State by 4. Watching Coastal without McCall (rain or not) showed me just how good McCall is. He's not an NFL talent, but he's very much like Taylor Lamb was for App. He is the key that turns all of the locks for the offense.
South at App
If Jake Bentley plays, App by 10. If Bentley doesn't play, App by 18. Steven Jones scores another few touchdowns to take the lead league in touchdown receptions...
Southern at TX State
Texas State by 17
Louisiana at Troy
Louisiana wins by 3. Louisiana could play Wisconsin Whitewater and win by 2 to 5 points. At this point, it doesn't matter. Louisiana plays to their level of competition and while it's working, it's great. However if I were a fan of Louisiana I'd be asking questions of the coaching staff. You are far too talented and well coached to continue to scrape by everyone.
Ark St at ULM
ULM wins by 3. ULM is playing at a level that suggests the sum of their parts are greater than the whole. Good coaching staff. However Arkansas State does have some individuals on defense that can create havoc plays. I also expect Wyatt Beagle will play and he looks like he runs a legit 4.3 40 yard dash. Arkansas State needs to let him finish out the year because he could be a league wrecker.
Future teams
FAU at Old Dominion
ODU wins by 4. Old Dominion had a 19 game losing streak and managed to snap it against a bad Louisiana Tech team who has thrown in the towel. Do they come back and lose the next week? No. They string together another win. ODU is stacking pennies right now and I believe they may have hit that point that App did in 2014 where it took one win to turn everything around. ODU shocks C-USA and makes Mike Aresco question his entire reason for being.
UAB at Marshall
Marshall wins by 21. UAB is not as good as they have been in years past. They gave up 40+ points to what had been a Louisiana Tech offense stuck in mud. Wells, Ali, Gammage, and that defense have really found their footing under Huff and are on a mission to have a de facto division championship game against the program that dashed their hopes of NY6 in 2014, Western Kentucky. Doc Holliday isn't in Huntington anymore. In previous years, this is a spot where Marshall inexplicably loses in embarrassing fashion.
Southern Miss at San Antonio
UTSA wins by 25. Southern Miss is bad, UTSA isn't as good as their AP ranking suggests. I think at least 3 to 4 teams in the Sun Nelt are better, but this Southern Miss team is bad. If they were an NFL team, I'd say they are sucking for the 1st pick but there is no draft in college so I'm not sure what's going on. Unlike ODU, I don't see any improvement or bright spots for USM. It's just bad, bad, and worse. Offense is bad, defense can't hold up for four quarters, and their best player, Gore, can't do everything himself.
JMU at William and Mary
JMU wins by 25. Seems JMU is on a mission to take advantage of what will be their curtain call in the FCS Playoffs this season. They know what is at stake for the legacy of JMU in FCS and momentum looking forward to moving up. They have been close to National Championships the past several years, giving up a 24-3 lead at Sam Houston to lose in embarrassing fashion in the Semi Finals. They are on a reckoning tour to prove that they are better than that.
Plus NDSU looked like a Division 2 team against SDSU so I'd imagine blood is in the water for all contenders in FCS.
