Rice vs. Charlotte thread
I don't know what to expect from this team. I wish we played every game on the road, because we're awful at home.

I have no faith in this coach. He loses to 1-6 North Texas in front of 2k on Homecoming, after beating one of the best teams in the conference. It's not a good look. We committed fourteen penalties for 144 yards.

I read that we're averaging 8 yards a play when we throw the ball, and 2.9 yards a play when we run. Why not just put Constantine in the shotgun, and have him pick defenses apart with short, quick passes? What does this coaching staff have to lose? Why aren't we doing what we're good at?

The OL is full of upperclassmen, and it's terrible. Why have them run block at all? Why have them pass block for more then three seconds?

Anyway, thank God we're not playing in Rice Stadium.

28-24, Owls

RE: Rice vs. Charlotte thread
I think a lot of inconsistency comes from what you use as your source of motivation. Some coaches try to motivate with emotion. They tend to get very up and down results. Other coaches tend to motivate with execution. There is a total focus on you doing your job correctly, every time. Those coaches tend to get more consistent results.

I prefer the motivation with execution approach. RUOwls's passing game is focused very intently on execution, particularly by receivers (of which he was a very good one).

Like the optimism, but I don't think that there's enough time in the game to score over 2800 touchdowns

Sigh, you’re probably right.
I’ll settle for just the win.

But meantime do consider two scenarios:
The Tommy Lewis play resulted in a Rice Touchdown. If the entire bench had tackled Maegle, they could have awarded 56 touchdowns.
And it’s not unusual to run 50 plays in a game (though to be fair 50 possessions is a less likely scenario)

Also consider that “the game cannot end on a defensive penalty”. So in theory (if not in practice) the possibility of multiple un timed downs means such a result might be theoretically possible.

Though both scenarios might be possible, I’ll probably revise my prediction in the face of peer pressure, as I did two weeks ago when I under-predicted Rice’s production by more than 2x…

Still gonna be a win though.

As long we hold the 49ers under 7^2 it’ll be a moral victory.

How on earth is Charlotte going to score 14*e^(4*pi*i/7) points?!

In the usual manner.

RE: Rice vs. Charlotte thread
Since I got the score right last week, just the wrong teams, I think I'll see if that trend extends itself but picking the teams backward from what I really want:

Charlotte 30, Rice 24 (wink, wink, nudge nudge)

(OATM, please note the picks can be made using third grade math, which I could almost certainly get a B+ in)

In the usual manner.

I presume that instead of running X yards to the real end zone, one would turn left 4*pi/7 radians, run X yards into the imaginary end zone, then kick an imaginary ball through the (properly rotated) imaginary goalposts?

And you'd have to do it twice. I don't know, seems rather, ahem, complex.

Hmmm.

3**(3**3) = 3**27 = 7.6255975 x 10**12
e**(pi*i) = -1

While the 7th root of 105,413,504 is 14.

Rice wins in a rout! :-)

Yay, Owls!!

It’s been waaaaay too long since I could do the math above, so I’ll just go with ESPN and the bettors. Owls given a 26.6% chance of winning and 49ers are 6.5 point favorites. Sounds generous given last week’s performance, but about right when looking at the season to date.

What were our chances of winning against UAB?

Less than 7% before KO vs UAB, but about 40% before KO vs UNT. I guess that’s why they play the games.

Defense does well on Charlotte's first drive. Feel like opening drives on defense have been an issue, so that's good to see.

Two passing plays, two Rice first downs. Should've been 3-3 but a terrible drop by Patterson.
