One of the G5 teams will have a place every year and that will put the SBC winner in line to be included if the league continues to strengthen, especially in competition with the realigned AAC and MWC. If the XII expands again, it only helps us, because they will poach the AAC and MWC again (Memphis, SMU and/or Boise State).
One can hope.
To do that we need Southern Miss and Texas State to step up and start getting it done. You know Arkansas State will be back in a matter of time. We know Georgia Southern will be back.
After watching MAC offenses, I'm not sure they are as forgettable as people make them seem. If a team can put a defense together one year, they may have something to say about a bid. The quarterback play in that league may be better, top to bottom, than any other G5 league I've watched.

I saw in the general realignment forum earlier that Chancellor Hawkins of Troy is on the playoff expansion committee. I'm sure he'll vote for 12 so that a SBC can regularly compete for a spot in the playoff, not Troy of course, but someone else.

Setup is probably to ensure B1G and pac12 champs play in the rose bowl on new years.

RE: College football figures speaking out...it's getting ridiculous.
Yeah, it’s strictly for that.
Alliance side is digging in for P5 auto bids.
SEC and ND are digging in for expansion so they get more at-large bids.
Bowls are digging in they want to be more relevant/keep traditional conf affiliations (esp the Rose), of which it’s digging in its heels on the NYD 4pm time slot after the ToR Parade.
This solves all the issues.
Gives P5 champs autobids to NYD
Keeps traditional bowl affiliations
Gives G4 access to auto-playoff spot.
Gives 5 additional at-large bids up for grabs for top teams from all of FBS regardless of conference or Indy.
(Cap at no more than 3 teams from any one conf total).
Increases $$$$.
You keep 3 spots open in traditional bowl games for losers of 1st round and they fill those in after those games are played.
Bowl system remains unchanged.
Everybody has access. Everyone wins.

Where 11 is strange it at least works still. B1G and PAC-12 keep the Rose Bowl to themselves but there’s only 5 At-Large spots.

Southern Miss President Rodney Bennett is the CUSA rep on that committee. Or was, at least. That may change soon enough.

This is the only logical and reasonable answer, and therefore will not happen.
