Also ODU has some serious potential and also is in an incredible recruiting area. It's a very good move for the Sun Belt.

ODU has more potential than a lot of people give them credit for.

They have had a couple of dreadful football seasons, a few decent ones, and one that saw them take home a co-championship. They were also in the NCAA Tournament in 2019, the NIT in 2015, and came out on top of CUSA in 2019. They also have fielded a few stellar baseball teams, men's soccer teams, and other OLY teams. ODU is in fertile recruiting ground and will be another destination for SBC fans to travel to, something that CUSA fans took advantage of.

Outside of that, having ODU onboard helps the Belt secure the bag with Marshall and JMU. It was quite obvious that we were heavily courting Marshall, but Marshall didn't seem to want to take the bait without some closer regional rivals. Once the SBC secured ODU, JMU was on board, and then Marshall jumped in. It was all a game that is still working its kinks out.

The Sun Belt is excited about ODU. I'm thrilled about them. We won't take advantage of them or look over them the way their previous conference or its members did.

They're going full circle. But conference mates USF, UAB and UNCC will be in AAC, VCU in Atlantic 10, Jacksonville in Atlantic Sun and WKU still in CUSA. Only USA is still left from their old Sun Belt days. Georgia State was in the Sun Belt briefly, but I beleive it was before ODU was there.

I think they're working to see if they can make it happen in 2022. But that's TBD. I imagine that's a LOT of moving parts to sort that quickly.

2023 works better for everyone. That is when schools join the Big 12 and all the conferences have opening.

It also allows JMU to start the transition with that funky year in 2022 for football where neither FBS nor FCS.

WKU seems to be the fallback if JMU has to pull out. But I doubt they will.

Good for ODU football, bad for ODU basketball. The Sun Belt is a one bid league.
