I saw the weak schedule. What I didn’t see is both UCF and Memphis at 0-1 with upset losses. That opens the door for Houston bigtime. I doubt anyone called those two losses.

I mean--Houston's only real chance is to continue to progress and gel over the next few weeks---but my sense is SMU is just a better right now. Memphis has taken a step back--but--lol---- they always seem to solve their issues about 2 weeks before we play them.

True and memphis just pisses me off...

The Houston - MEMPHIS games over the years have been a series of runs by one team or the other. Each team has won 5 of the last 10 games played:
2009 UH 55 - 14 at UH
2010 UH 56 - 17 at MEM
2011 did not play
2012 did not play
2013 UH 25 - 15 at UH
2014 UH 28 - 24 at MEM
2015 UH 35 - 34 at UH (wide right!!)
2016 MEM 48 - 44 at MEM
2017 MEM 42 - 38 at UH
2018 MEM 52 - 31 at MEM
2019 MEM 45 - 27 at UH
2020 MEM 30 - 27 at MEM

Once you get past the first few years---the last 7 to 8 games or so have all largely been very close affairs.

Houston’s Conference football schedule is SO WEAK….

Over the other 17 quarters, we win 206-20.

It's been a season of feast or famine by quarter.

RICE is proud to have provided one of your bad quarters… it was still a ball game at the half after we showed up for the 2Q (and at least some of the third!)

This schedule was set up for Holgorsen to go 9-3 or better and build some momentum.

Based on the current power ratings, Houston should be favored by 3 over SMU at home and a double-digit favorite in the remaining games.

This Owl fan has to push back on the “bottom 15” narrative. Trust me I know what bottom 10 bad looks like and this years Rice team, even with the injuries, is clearly above that level.

But over 60% of the 70 rankings in Massey Composite agree with me, Rice is NOT a bottom 15 team this year!

Good luck the rest of the way… Houston isn’t there yet but has the pieces to contend at least as far as the AAC final.

LOL, what do you want us to say? The rest of the AAC sucks? Because that's really what y'all are saying.

All we can do is play and win. If we were losing, the weak schedule would be a real talking point.

So AAC, time to put up or shut up! 03-nutkick

I wouldnt say the AAC sucks---but I dont think this is going to be one of our stronger football seasons as a conference. Strangely, despite it being a down year for the overall conference---I think the likely conference champ might be the best and most complete team we've ever had in the AAC. Cinci looks like the real thing to me this year. Im still betting on SMU to face them in the CCG----but I think there are several teams that could get hot and sneak in to the CCG. Honestly---its Cinci--a gap---then SMU--a smaller gap---and then a step below that is this giant scrum where everyone can beat everyone.

Sounds like you are already betting that SMU will beat Houston.

lol---I just think thus far SMU looks like the better team---but I like that we seem to be improving week to week. We get SMU at home---so we have a punchers chance---but I try call em as I see em. SMU looks very solid this year. Dykes has done a great job there.

I will believe we beat SMU if I see it and if this was in Dallas I would pick the Ponies by double digits. The UH offense just leaves so many yards on the field with Tune's lack of accuracy. They should have scored 2 more touchdowns against Tulane if he could just improve his accuracy but its year 3 and he hasn't yet and I don't see it happening any time soon either.

That's one way to look at it. Another way to look at it is that the Coog's have shown they are progressing and getting better and better each week. If we played TTech now, I'm convinced we win.

Halftime of the Navy game is when something clicked with this team and they have bought in finally to whatever Holgs is selling, and it shows.

I was skeptical too, the first few games up until the Coogs came out in the 2nd half of the Navy game and it looked like they had a purpose finally. Each week looks better and better.

I'm looking forward to the matchup with SMU, and not expecting us to lose any home games the rest of the season.

Thats closer to may view. We seem to be improving. Tech is 4-2---so not as bad as we thought. We probably win that Tech game if Tune doesnt throw 4 interceptions. We solidly beat a tough Tulsa team on their own field. That same Tulsa team knocked off Memphis. Im not saying we are world beaters---but we do seem to be improving---thus, given we get SMU at home---I give us a punchers chance of winning that one. If I had to bet the rent---Im betting on SMU to win as I think they are the better team right now---but I think we do have a shot. Certainly a better shot than I thought we might have after watching us lose in week one to Tech. 04-cheers

I agree that we have shown steady improvement, but...when in doubt qo with the team with the better qb. IMHO Mordecai is much, much better than Tune.

Now, compare the defenses. 04-cheers
