Houston’s Conference football schedule is SO WEAK…. - SadderBudweiser - 10-08-2021 03:40 AM

It looks like Tim Jankovich made it.

Seriously…. No CINCY. No UCF.
SMU and Memphis at home.

Gotta be favored to make the conference championship game.

Not to mention the non-conference includes Bottom 15s Rice & UConn plus Prairie View.

This schedule was set up for Holgorsen to go 9-3 or better and build some momentum.

Based on the current power ratings, Houston should be favored by 3 over SMU at home and a double-digit favorite in the remaining games.

Houston has played seven bad quarters out of 24. Outscored 77-17.

Over the other 17 quarters, we win 206-20.

It's been a season of feast or famine by quarter.

Wait a minute. They play Temple up in Philly on Nov 13th, so there's that.

So, you're sayin' there should be no excuses in reaching the chip game. Certainly not due to the highest paid coach in the non-autonomous conferences...

I knew before we started this year we'd have a substantially improved record even if there was absolutely NO improvement in the team--thats how weak the schedule was. The original OOC schedule was Texas Tech, Vandy, Boise, and Rice. Pretty darn respectable OOC.

Texas Tech wasnt expected to have a good year. Rice is part of our OOC most years. Then we had opening in the OOC when Boise wanted to move the game to another year and we filled it with an FCS team (Grambling). We were supposed to also play Vandy---and that match-up was exchanged for a game vs UConn. So our OOC schedule went from a pretty respectable OOC schedule to an exceedingly weak OOC. As far as the conference schedule goes---we have no power over it---but it happens this year we don't play Cinci or UCF. So---the our toughest games on paper are probably Memphis and SMU---and we get them both at home. Dana couldnt ask for a better hand----and yet I still see SMU as the most likely foe for Cinci in the CCG.

SMU May be the stronger squad but with Navy, Houston, Memphis and Cincy on the road.... we’ll that’s a tall order to be even 3-1. Houston could actually win out.... right into a championship game massacre.

And it would be a massacre. lol---Im pretty sure we are the worst 5-1 team in the nation.

Or more likely we coog it and play lights out and cost Cinci a chance at the playoff. I agree we are definitely the worst 5-1 team in the NCAA.

I thought we played Grambling? Did PV need reschedule as well? Just curious.

RE: Houston’s Conference football schedule is SO WEAK…. - robertfoshizzle - 10-08-2021 02:25 PM

The same thing happened to Cincinnati in 2018 due to the randomness of the cross-division schedule and what teams are good any given year. We dodged Memphis and Houston, who were the top two teams in the west (by overall record, although Tulane tied with them in the conference standings), and finished 11-2 (6-2). In reality, that roster was more like a 9-4 quality team, but I think racking up wins against a weak schedule really helped build the confidence and winning mentality that eventually brought us to where we are now. Hopefully Houston can capitalize in a similar way and go on a run in future seasons.

Yes--Grambling--not PV. Thats what I get for trying to multi-task. Correcting that now.

I saw the weak schedule. What I didn’t see is both UCF and Memphis at 0-1 with upset losses. That opens the door for Houston bigtime. I doubt anyone called those two losses.

I mean--Houston's only real chance is to continue to progress and gel over the next few weeks---but my sense is SMU is just a better team right now. Memphis has taken a step back--but--lol---- they always seem to solve their issues about 2 weeks before we play them.
