Lombardi vs Bowers
Might be too soon to judge Lombardi especially in a game where the elements played a factor. I thought Bowers was a good Quarterback but fragile as a player. Lombardi is a durable version of Bowers, just not as accurate.

His best game was against Maine. Had a great 4th quarter at Georgia Tech. He’s a game manager, not a gamebreaker. He a great leader though.

We’ve seen bad QB play before. Lombardi is not Childers bad. He’s good enough to get us to victory.Lol

RE: Lombardi vs Bowers
So far, Lombardi has not had a better career at NIU than Childers and nothing he has done says he’s better than Childers. Lots of season left let’s see how people improve or don’t

RE: Lombardi vs Bowers
Lombardi actually has an arm. Childers would often throw skipped passes or overthrow simple lateral passes.

Problem is the offensive coordinator needs to play to Lombardi's strengths like they did vs Maine. Roll him out and give him options to pass or run.

RE: Lombardi vs Bowers
Bowers could get real hot. If he had Waylee/Brown he would’ve been dangerous…

RE: Lombardi vs Bowers
Lombardi does have a good arm but currently he’s bad at connecting with the receiver so it doesn’t matter if he has a arm.

RE: Lombardi vs Bowers
The jury is still out on what type of passer Lombardi is. With five games in the books, I need a bigger sample size. Some big question marks for sure.

One thing Bowers and Childers didn't come close in comparison, was their ability to lead a team. Rocky has that factor about him. Nominated captain before he even took an official Huskie snap. That says a lot. The kid has that wrestler mentality and will never quit. The coaches need to scheme around his talents and he is more than serviceable. GO HUSKIES

Didn't NIU win the MACC with Childers once?

I remember Childers coming into several games as the backup and running the ball quite well. And the 2018 MACC was a classic.

Childers got a bad rap, he was a tough competitor.

RE: Lombardi vs Bowers
Which qb do you think Richie prefers?

———————Games—rec—yds.— Tds
Richie/bowers.... 6......53...597....4
Richie/Lmbrdi......5..... 21...217....0

If Lombardi can hit Richie 32 times for 380 yds and 4 tds this weekend vs Toledo Tyrice will be on pace for last years totals.

Richie is so darn good it is unfortunate he isn’t being utilized to his fullest. He’s someone that should be a priority for the offense. When he is gone next year there will be a huge void in the wr group. Tucker will have graduated so we have to hope he wants to stay a 5th year. If Tucker and Richie leave who is gonna help Lombardi complete passes? Those two by far have the surest hands. Take the two best wrs(by far) from this offense and what does the pass game look like in 2022?

The WRs are underutilized so I'd say next year's passing about the same. Not hard to replace 10 catches a game given a whole year to practice and grow.

We are running the ball just slightly (lol) better this year which probably has at least something to do with this as well.

Richie is talented but we ve had more complete WRs at NIU. Moore, Palmer, Fleck etc (without going into the elite obvious categories of TLL, Golladay, McCareins, etc). He has wheels but sometimes his hands leave him. The first drive vs Michigan this year he ran a poor route and we settled for 3. Then we know what happened.

For the 15+ years fans he actually reminds me of Marcus Perez. Fast but elite? Idk

Last year he was elite. This year he seems out of sorts with Rocky a tad. I still think he is the best player on this team and there’s gonna be some high scoring games where we are really gonna need him. I’ve seen very little from any other WRs besides Tucker(who’s having a great season). Would love to see a real effort to get him involved early.

Rocky has a huge advantage. Our running game, including Rocky, is so much better. This should open up passing game but we have not seen that yet. They are keying on Waylee and brown.

They need to let Lombardi run a little more, especially on handoffs/fake handoffs where it's difficult to tell right away who has the ball.

The offense could have so many options but it’s one dimensional by choice so far. Maybe that will change. But if you’re gonna be one dimensional you better be really, really. Really good at it. Just seems the running lanes would be that much better with defenders worried about Rudolph, Richie , Tucker and joiner—-that was the dream anyway

If it was me, I would run more of an option. Rat dog on a dive play, rocky and Waylee/Brown with option. Allow Rocky to pull back and pass. Similar to what Lynch did only less QB keepers. It worked with Lynch because he was Lynch lol.
