Roll Call UNH - 10/2/21
Since we have a Bye week this week, it's time to look ahead to UNH. Who is coming up to this game? I'll be there with my brother and 2 UNH alums.

The last few times JMU has come up here, it was November - well past the Fall foliage time and during that quiet time after all the summer places close but before the winter places open. This time it should be perfect, so those of you looking for things to do, head 30-60 minutes north to the lakes region or mountains and enjoy. If you have enough time, drive up the Mt. Washington Auto Road and soak it all in. https://mt-washington.com/hours-dates-of-operation The best thing is that it is still the week before Columbus Day weekend, so most of the New Yorkers won't be up here yet.

It is homecoming, so expect a good crowd and give time for parking and traffic.

Remember, this possibly (hopefully) will be the last time the Dukes visit NH, so come and enjoy it! (And hopefully the Dukes schedule some games at BC, UMass, or UConn so that I can continue to attend games...)

I'm hoping the team shows up.

Off week, coming after a big win on the road. UNH appears to be one of our tougher road games.

I remember going up to beat them when UNH was #1 and we ended up coming back on the plane with with players. I remember DJ getting all the autographs of the players on his game program. Very fun plane ride after beating the #1 ranked team. Must of been about 12-15 years ago.

Was it 2007 with Rodney?

Probably - didn't recall it being the season opener, but perhaps it was.

Did not recall they had won 4 of the last 5 against us. Would not of thought that. 04-jawdrop

We beat them up there in 2006 in Rascati's senior year when they were #1. We curb-stomped them.

I think Chip Kelly was the OC at the time, and Ricky Santos, who was the interim HC while Sean McDonnell was away, was the starting QB of that UNH team.

Will be there +1.

The 2006 game when UNH was #1 with Santos (won Payton award) & David Ball (who broke Jerry Rice's receiving TD record) was also their homecoming game. As I recall a 2 lane road getting into campus was just 1 massive traffic jam. Don't remember what time we got there or how long it took to get parked, but I remember that last mile or so took FOREVER. The attendance for that game in UNH's then listed capacity 6.5k stadium (which didn't include the temp endzone seating), was listed at 13k+. Their last HC game vs Elon in 2019 listed attendance at 17k+. Doesn't make sense as their new (2016) stadium lists an 11k+ capacity..

JMU was up 42-10 then went to "prevent" and UNH got 2 4th qtr TDs to make it 42-23.

Ball, who had tied Rice's record the week before, didn't get a TD vs JMU. He broke Rice's record the following week vs RU..

The other @ UNH games (2011, 2013, 2016) I went to (didn't go 2018) I don't believe were homecoming. Crowds not nearly as big & no major traffic jams.

Since that 2006 game, they did redo the road little (added a traffic circle to keep things flowing - don't have to cross over traffic to get to "A" Lot, but it still is just a 2-lane road). However, this got me interested in looking to see if UNH had any new info...and they do.

First -there is a Homecoming traffic pattern, which is found here:
https://unhwildcats.com/documents/2021/9...df?id=6278

More importantly, parking at Boulder Field is sold out and A-Lot might have spots left (it's hard to tell), but they cost $75-friggin-dollars!

So, I know that I will be trying my other parking spots - which add a little bit of a walk through campus, but it's not too bad. First spot would be B Lot, then Mill Road visitors, and finally the Hannaford parking lot. (All of those are right near each other on the southeastern part of campus.)

Looking at their maps, Lot S also might be an option. Basically, on this map, avoid all Green, Gray, and Pink lots:
https://unh.app.box.com/s/epcbeimtwy6r69...4o1hs2q2zm

I will ask around with some UNH alums to see if they have any other advice.

Fortunately, the weather looks to be 65-degrees and sunny - so perfect for an afternoon game. (People might want to bring a light jacket for the end of the game.)

Definitely to stay away from A-Lot this year. It looks like B-Lot of S-Lot would be the best choices. If going for B-Lot, it's probably best to approach the campus from the southeast. (Basically, stay away from Main Street as much as possible.)

I know that I am going to aim to get there no later than 1:30 (for the 3:30 game).

Thanks NH. We’ll plan on B Lot I guess. Again of the 4 JMU @ UNH games I’ve been to prior, as I recall only that 2006 game was their Homecoming. As I recall that was the only time parking in a ‘non tailgate’ lot, the other 3 times I believe all Boulder Field. As I recall in 06’, the no tailgating in the non tailgate lot was strictly enforced with campus security/officers in golf carts, and they weren’t polite about it. What sucks is don’t want to get there too early since can’t tailgate, but not to late that get held up in a massive traffic jam and/or don’t get parking on campus. So we’ll also shoot for a 1:00-1:30 arrival.

Last time (2018), there was decent tailgating in A-Lot as well as Boulder - including by a number of JMU fans - so that policy has definitely changed. (They even mention tailgating in A-Lot on their website. However, I would guess most JMU fans, at least, will be squeezed out by the requirement of a purchased-in-advanced $75 parking pass.

Their last HC game vs Elon in 2019 listed attendance at 17k+. Doesn't make sense as their new (2016) stadium lists an 11k+ capacity..

JMU was up 42-10 then went to "prevent" and UNH got 2 4th qtr TDs to make it 42-23.
https://jmusports.com/news/2006/10/14/HO...DCATS.aspx

Thanks UNH for the info. Any word on the bolded?

Definitely to stay away from A-Lot this year. It looks like B-Lot of S-Lot would be the best choices. If going for B-Lot, it's probably best to approach the campus from the southeast. (Basically, stay away from Main Street as much as possible.)

I know that I am going to aim to get there no later than 1:30 (for the 3:30 game).

Thanks UNH.

Also Saxkow is 100% JMU and not UNH at all, just lives up there, so maybe just call him NH instead of UNH hahaha

What section is everyone sitting in? Can’t buy from JMU anymore and don’t want to sit with UNH. 4 total coming.

Tried looking but couldn’t find anything. What is the bag policy if there is one?

Will be there +1.

The 2006 game when UNH was #1 with Santos (won Payton award) & David Ball (who broke Jerry Rice's receiving TD record) was also their homecoming game. E-mail from JMU 'Game Day Info- JMU Football vs. New Hampshire'
Quote:Recommended free parking lots on game day are the Mast Road Lot (C9 on the map above), Edgewood Visitor Center Lot (G14 on the map above), and the Alumni Center Lot (E15 on the map above). A tailgating lot is available in Lot A for $75, but must be purchased ahead of time from New Hampshire.
https://unh.app.box.com/s/epcbeimtwy6r69...4o1hs2q2zm

Of those 3 mentioned, the Mast Rd Lot looks like the biggest (Its in pink, and Saxkow said avoid that). Those other 2 lots in the core of campus are smaller.

The JMU e-mail didn't mention B lot as recommended parking. I assume someone from the JMU athletic dept talked to someone from the UNH athletic dept, and were told the 3 lots above, but not B lot, which looks on the map bigger than Mast Rd Lot. I wonder why?

Now I'm wondering if should stick with coming in from the southeast for B Lot, or come in from the northwest for the Mast Rd Lot.

Obviously, I would trust what JMU sent out regarding Mast Rd. I went off of the UNH parking website which said any lots that had mixed used and included residential was strictly off-limits in normal times (even on weekends)...but I am guessing UNH is tossing that rule out knowing that they will have a lot of alums who will be furious if they can't find places to park.

I know that I will still be trying B-Lot, but that is also the lot that I am actually most familiar with anyways - it's right by the Music Department.
