RE: This Board’s Ability to Judge Talent
Cole made some mistakes tonight, but he came a long way to the season he just had. Wish he would've had those extra 28 seconds to try and redeem himself for the two picks, he deserved that last shot at the W.

Agreed. He played an excellent game at the Sam Houston semi loss and could have played better last night but they are a hard to team to beat.
Wish he would have have had his two semi final games at home with a chance at a neutral field title. But that’s the way it goes sometimes.
It’s remarkable what the 2004 team accomplished. Road playoff wins are tough.

Sure is. Your homework assignment is to post all the records he broke this year. Try to earn some more rep points.

Yeah. CoJo just picked a really unfortunate night to be a little off his peak game.

Part of this was the noise/environment.
On the critical late game endzone pick, CoJo said he had tried to call an audible for different OL pass blocking, but wasn't heard so he got a lot of pressure and had to dump the ball quickly.
He said he was trying to throw that one away I believe, and there are photos of the defender going about 6 feet vertical to snag it. It was a combination of pressure, a slightly poor decision on the throw, and a really good athletic defensive play as well.
I think a play like this wouldn't have happened at BFS, or false starts, clock "errors", etc. Home field in my mind was the difference in this game, and Cig said something to the same effect.
A little amazing to think that possibly all that stood between us and Frisco this year was making one of those normally automatic FGs against Nova.

He steps up and barks his changes to the o-line, you can see o-line acting like they’ve heard him, he then says something to Palmer and took the snap with 9 seconds left. So not sure what what else could’ve been done regarding that, it seems they got his call. On that play it was like the rest of the game, they brought 4 and dropped 7, we had 5 o-linemen plus Palmer so 6 should be able to contain 4. Problem is our center didn’t pick up their twist, and Palmer released without picking him up either, so the heat was on and CJ chucked it. We’re in the red zone, throwing it away should be easy chuck it high and out of the endzone and live for 4th down; if you’re throwing near a receiver you need to throw it where only the receiver can get to it. That said, the DB made an incredible play on it.

Oh no, I wasn't thinking about that one as much as several other passes where he missed his target either by 2 feet or 10. Usually he's a lot sharper than that, and I think that's what caused the first INT, as well as a handful of drive-killing incompletions.
Also, I'm not saying COLE SUCKS, I'm really really not. Just that he's been making those throws on the money, dropping the ball into guy's laps 40 yards downfield and things, for a few months, and was a bit less accurate last weekend. And that little bit might have been a difference maker.

Confidence in your blind side makes a big difference for any QB, but it seems like Cole gets especially rattled if he can't have that confidence. Saw it earlier in the year when he could drop a ball on a dime all day long until we lost Fornadel then he was very hit and miss until Fornadel was back. Friday night early on Fornadel got pushed all the way back in to Cole's back and he seemed inconsistent and rattled at times from then on imo.

I’ll be surprised if he gets that invite to the combine, he’s ranked 33 and they usually don’t take even 1/2 that many QBs. Also, he’s going to have to get into a pre-draft training program and add some quality weight quickly, he looks more like a HS senior than a 6th year senior.

really impressed with Cole's leadership in 25 games (or so) in just one calendar year.... and great stats. I just want him to put on 25 lbs and speed up his release - i predict CFL in his future, and that aint so bad

I can’t help but recall the predictions that the Nooch would never be drafted or play in the NFL.
Just watch CJ get drafted now.
The adage “a prophet is without honor in his home town” may apply here. Many of us have nitpicked about CJ’s shortcomings, but scouts will see an athlete with size, smarts and a good arm. I won’t be surprised in the least if he lands up on an NFL roster.

RE: This Board’s Ability to Judge Talent
As a Vikings fan, I view Cole Johnson's talent like I view Kirk Cousins talent. If you feel Kirk is a legitimate top QB, you will like Cole's talent.
On the other hand, many Vikes/Skins fans are skepticle of Kirk and likewise with Cole.
Great stats but as the previous post mentions, pocket presence leaves a lot to be desired which leads to some mistakes.

WTH happened to Purple? I see he’s got the line through his name and it says banned. What did I miss? Is it a couple days? I know some feel threatened by his stance on some things but the guy is an avid JMU supporter through and through, sometimes overly optimistic to a fault, but his heart bleeds purple and I hope this ban is just a temporary timeout.
