Why not UC - O$U?

Never happen. tO$U, and their fans, will always see us as the little kid down the street. We would have to play them and win dominantly for like 20 years before we would get ANY respect, so not gonna happen.

But what would winning do for UC?
TCU beat Texas 7 out of 10. Texas is going to the SEC with a huge budget and out recruits TCU. Even if UC would have beat them in 2002?, would it have mattered that much? OSU still won the national title.

Personally, I don't care if they ever play OSU. I want UC to play good teams that they have a good chance of winning. Play in good bowl games and be a top 25 team.

Hopefully B12 means no more 1 off games. I don't need an Alabama beat down, would rather have ACC, SEC or B10 team home and home.

OSU isn't coming back to Cincinnati so who cares about them.

Not sure why you decided to comment on it then. I also don't expect them to start a series. But my comment was challenging your assumption that UC could never beat OSU or a team ranked #3.

We’re the little brother school. That’s just how it is. They’ll play us once a decade at best. That’s their prerogative.

No matter what conference we're in, O$U and their legion of ignoramous fans will always consider us as a MAC school.

The ironic thing is a good percentage of their fan base are MAC grads

I watched the first half of their game yesterday, and Ridder would absolutely carve up that defense. It's bad. It's poorly coached, poorly schemed and all that 5* talent doesn't seem to have developed at all. I'm pretty sure that Kerry will be out after this year.

Now, they may straighten things out by season's end, but right now UC would absolutely be favored if they were playing next weekend.

Ohio State and UC are not rivals. That's just how it is.

They avoided us for decades, but we can't even make that argument anymore.

Since 1999, UC & Ohio State have played 6 times in football & 4 times in basketball. All 10 were OSU victories (7 were blowouts).

Truer words have never been spoken. The legions of Walmart t-shirt fans that went (likely never graduated) to Toledo, BGSU, etc. and name their dog "Brutus"...ya know because they are so invested.

My coworker in the early 2000s played the OSU fight song at his desk all day on Friday’s…. He went to BGSU.

My current CEO…. BGSU and Toledo grad… office and a conference room decked out in OSU colors, pictures, merchandise… starts meetings with an O-H-I-O.

Down here I can't help but snicker when all the Dookie fans come out of the closet during hoops season. Yeah, like you or someone you know attended there. I want to say, you wear that garb during football season too? Similar to OSU, lots of UNC fans that root for the flagship didn't make it out of high school. But what're going to do? What I wouldn't give for our brand to be so popular and making revenue off of it.

RE: Any chance UC vs O$U rivalry?
I have no problem with non-graduates rooting for a school as long as they are consistent. If you grew up an OSU fan and attended Toledo or Akron, you have every right to continue rooting for OSU. Just don't bail on them if they ever make a bad hire and go the way of Michigan or Nebraska.

I never attended UC, but I've been a fan since kindergarten and have never had another college team I've seriously rooted for. I did attend OSU for a bit (graduated from a technical school later on) and never became a fan because I wasn't about to give up my UC fandom. Even when I lived on OSU campus, I always bled black and red. One thing I don't understand is the phenomenon of people growing up a fan of one school, then completely switching their allegiance based on where they went to school. I can understanding rooting for both your childhood team and your alma mater, but not just abandoning one for the other.

Just adding to what I've said above... having a snobby attitude towards college fans who didn't attend the school they root for isn't a great way to build a fan base. Hope that "t-shirt" UC fans don't get that kind of treatment from alumni.

I have no problem with one being a t-shirt fan, my only point is my experience is the most obnoxious OSU fans tend not to be alums. My wife is an OSU grad as are a bunch of her extended family. Having lived in Columbus for a dozen years I have a number or OSU grad friends as well. They are all not in-your-face about it.

The Cincinnati born and bred t-shirt OSU fans are among the worst. Most of them picked OSU simply because they were a winner. Moreover, they like to rub their fandom in UC fans face. Same with the UK blowhards here.

Agree. It's not ALL fans but SOME fans. I was pointing out that it is not an exclusive club to obnoxious thee Ohio State University fans.

I was a Dayton basketball fan all my life until about the second day I spent on UC campus my freshman year. Couldn't tell you about anything UD since that day.

I hope my post didn't come off as questioning a person's fandom in that situation. I guess it's just foreign to me because I had an opportunity to become an OSU fan when I attended there, and I even tried to get into them a little bit while staying a UC fan. It just didn't feel right for whatever reason. Regardless of how any UC fan became a fan, I'm all for it. I'm even loving how complimentary a lot of Columbus media and OSU fans have been towards UC ever since Fickell took over. My wife and her family (all OSU fans and grads) have basically adopted UC as their 2nd team between Fickell and just being around me and my fandom. Diehards like us will always follow the program, but picking up casual fans is important too. The casual fans who will turn the TV on when UC is playing help drive TV ratings.

I'd love to see it but doubt it happens. We know a couple things for sure: OSU would not play in Nippert and would likely demand more tickets allocated @ PBS than UC should give up.

I do believe games may get easier to schedule against P5 opponents regionally such as UK, Louisville, Pitt, IU or Purdue. Those all have the makings of enjoyable home and home in terms of travel and fan interest.

history says that WVU will be UC's main rival. Xavier doesn't have enough money or property to have a football team. I think Xavier fans watch the movie Marshall and cry through it.

Did you watch the first half of our game yesterday? Just about every team is going to have their ups and downs especially early in the season. I wouldn't draw a lot of conclusions about them (or us) based upon one half of a game this early.
