Any chance UC vs O$U rivalry?
Now that we’re in the Big12, it make sense.
There’s:
Pitt - Penn State
Iowa - Iowa State
Why not UC - O$U?

I'd love to see it but doubt it happens. We know a couple things for sure: OSU would not play in Nippert and would likely demand more tickets allocated @ PBS than UC should give up.
I do believe games may get easier to schedule against P5 opponents regionally such as UK, Louisville, Pitt, IU or Purdue. Those all have the makings of enjoyable home and home in terms of travel and fan interest.

Didn't Fick try and cancel the last game we had against OSU?

Pitt-Penn State is an irregular...at best...game. Ask the Pitt folks and you'll get an earful about how Penn State "ducks" them at every opportunity and "disrespects" them...which is about right...by refusing to play them.
A better analogy might be Louisville-Kentucky, which the Commonwealth of Kentucky finally demanded that they play. And that finally got pushed because Louisville was joining the ACC and, therefore, could claim "Major" status, which UK had used as their excuse to avoid playing Louisville over the years.
As to the OP...I don't think so. OSU will always claim the "need" to have the OOC games @ Ohio Stadium and will protest about having to come to play in "little" Paul Brown. (Then, of course, they will put their Spring Game at PBS and hold camps down here whenever they see fit....) Even if you could work out an equivalent to the old "Iron Bowl" when they played it at Birmingham...say, in Cleveland...OSU would protest over the loss of the Home Game revenue.
It'll never happen. We'll play every-so-often up at Ohio Stadium, but that's it.

One other note: Iowa is a fascinating thing because it is not "Iowa-Iowa State." It's actually a three-way series between Iowa-Iowa State-and Northern Iowa. (Hence why UNI almost beat Iowa State last week...) The three play a format not unlike the "Commander In Chief" trophy that Army-Navy-Air Force play for, and it's been going on for a long time now. Every so often Iowa or (to a lesser degree) Iowa State threatens to break it off, but the State's political powers-that-be stop it from happening. UI, ISU, and UNI have a fictional "State Championship" trophy that they play for and, more often than you think, UNI makes a strong challenge for it. Most of the other colleges in Iowa are either D2 or D3, but the "Big" three public universities in Iowa are pretty well tied together.

RE: Any chance UC vs O$U rivalry?
It won't happen because OSU will never voluntarily agree to it.
The legislature will never mandate it because OSU will play the card that they'll then have to quit playing the MAC schools, which will essentially make the equation in the statehouse UC versus OSU and the MAC schools.
UC will never push for it too hard because relations with OSU are good right now, and they're not going to risk Bearcat-Buckeye Day at the statehouse, research collaboration and help from OSU on UC's Cancer Center application over a football game.

Yeah, Fickell's not going to want to play OSU, and I don't blame him. He's a 100% committed to UC, but he's always going to love his alma mater. I'm sure it was a weird feeling coming out of the visitor's tunnel at the horseshoe.

I thought he wanted to cancel the last one because he didn't think it was a good time for UC to play against them given our stage in retooling. Everything we know about Fickell indicates that he wouldn't shy away from playing a football power if the opportunity presents.
On the other side (and perhaps Fickell knows this), even if in a snowball's chance in hell we were to be invited to the SEC, OSU would never want to give us any undue ammunition to allow the possibility that there is another legitimate power in Ohio. It would take pressure from state legislature in that case (filled with OSU sycophants), or perhaps UC making noise in a college football playoff, or OSU falling off in quality, to force their hand in that regard.

UC needs to keep building the brand. Schedule IU, UK, Pitt UofL etc. Beat Purdue and BC etc. Lets keep beating avg to decent P5 teams. Stay in top 25 and win a few NY6 bowls. Losing to OSU and a top 3 team does little for UC.

Will we be the Auburn to OSU's Alabama?
The Michigan State to their Michigan?
There's no way to know, because OSU does not want to play us. Auburn and Michigan State are in the same conference as their rival, so they get a chance to develop an on-field rivalry.
As uncommon as it has been to play OSU (especially on our terms, since they can simply pay $$$ to postpone the game if we look great that season), I assume that they will now double their efforts to contain us now that we are P5.

OSU has 0 (zero) reason to boost UC in any sport. They might be forced to play us in one off games if we become a top 10 program but it won't be a regular series. They have their rivals already. Disclaimer: I spent a year there before transferring home to UC. I root for them secondarily to UC (football only - never basketball) and 2 of my siblings are OSU alums. I don't hate them but they have no reason to play us regularly...unfortunately.

i would prefer we not play osu while Coach Fickell is the coach. He's too invested in both programs and the lead up to that game would be uncomfortable. There are plenty of other program that i would like to start a series against that i think we would have tremendous success against. Pitt, UK, IU, Purdue, PSU, UK and Louisville come to mind.

RE: Any chance UC vs O$U rivalry?
It won't happen as long as Fick is here. Honestly, I'm to the point I'm over playing them unless it is a bowl/CFP. We just stepped up in conference weight class and the games will get tougher than they are now. After the PBS game that we [woulda, coulda, shoulda] won they will never play us outside Columbus again. We shouldn't settle for that anyway.
