I really think the bond with MT for WKU has weakened. It is every team for their self in this mess.

ALSO-- this talk of WKU to the MAC will NOT happen. We recruit the Southeast in sports and will stay southern.

By some definitions, this stretches all the way down to the isthmus in Panama. Get the University of Panama involved and invite them to compete as "The Panama Canals" - they have >50,000 students.

They can host an ACC-Pac 12 Challenge

Best case scenario for CUSA

AAC takes UAB and Rice

MWC takes UTEP and UNT

Sunbelt takes USM and UTSA

That leaves 8 members in CUSA, La Tech with the 7 CUSA East. The formation of an Eastern Centric league would be possible as La Tech is cool with being an outlier and does not want to be in the Sunbelt. Those 8 could add JMU and 1 other school and then have UConn and UMass affiliate if they would like as well.

Another Best Case scenario for CUSA - AAC takes the Markets approach

AAC takes UAB, Charlotte, Ga St., Rice

Sunbelt takes USM, ODU, Marshall, JMU

CUSA takes Texas St, NMSU, UMass & UConn Football Only

CUSA West survives and the conference loses that pesky unhappy eastern contingent. Maintains a travel pair in Florida and a the WKU/MTSU combo which isn't bad for basketball. UMass and UConn can be added football only if desired

AAC - Market Conference
East - Temple, ECU, Charlotte, Ga St., UAB, USF
West - Memphis, Tulane, Rice, SMU, Navy/Wichita, Tulsa

Sunbelt - Football Culture Conference
East - Marshall, ODU, JMU, App, Coastal, Ga Southern
West - Troy, S Alabama, USM, ULM, Louisiana, Ark St

CUSA - Texas Centric Conference
East - MTSU, WKU, FIU, FAU, UMass, UConn
West - NMSU, UTEP, UTSA, Texas St, North Texas, La Tech

There is a good chance that WKU could end up in the AAC. But if the AAC takes in 4 from CUSA and the SBC does the same thing you are left behind in a 6 team D1 CUSA.

At that point based on projections MT and FIU are probably not getting into the AAC/SBC mashups. MAC could go to 16 with WKU, MT, FIU and UMass to make it a more eastern configuration.

In CUSA you have MT, WKU, Marshall, ODU, Charlotte all in the East division which overlaps with the SBC (App, Coastal, GS/GSU) and AAC (ECU).

AAC goes with 4 (WKU, UAB, ODU, Charlotte) and the SBC takes in the other 2 (Marshall, MT). This effectively destroys any chance at an eastern upshot league and reduces CUSA to a more Southwest conference + FAU/FIU.

I don't think its completely the best idea for the AAC (they should try the western expansion path first) but it would rebuild geography for the conference.

Just like you aren't going to split up the F_Us. I don't think you will be able to split up WKU/MTSU. They both might be red headed step children but they are both basically going in the same place. At one time Cincy and Louisville was like that until someone asked Louisville to the prom.

There was a time I would have agree with this 100%, but MTSU is in a real rut and if we are tossed a life boat I think we will take it, no strings attached. MTSU needs a new AD yesterday.

MTSU got bit with the worst thing that can happen to a G5, a coach and an AD not good enough to move up and not bad enough to fire.

RE: Interesting Tidbit I hear about CUSA.....
Lets not forget that the reports of the A10, ASUN and WAC wants to join FBS as a conference. Schools that have commented about going to FBS are:

Abilene Christian just needs to add 3000 seats.
UCA just needs to add 5000 seats.
Chattanooga already have an FBS sized stadium. *
Dayton Ohio needs to add 5000 seats.
Delaware will follow James Madison right out of the CAA. *
Dixie State needs to add 5000 seats.
Eastern Kentucky *
James Madison *
Jacksonville State *
Kennesaw State needs to add seatings.
Lamar *
North Alabama needs to add like 400 more permanate seats.
North Carolina A&T *
North Dakota State *
Northern Iowa *
Sam Houston State needs to add a few more seats.
South Dakota State * Can be a travel partner for NDSU.
Southern Utah needs to add 7000 seats.
Stephen F. Austin needs to add a few more.
Stony Brook needs to add 3000 but they could rent the pro-stadium.
Tarleton State still adding onto their stadium.
UTRGV will add football and do have a stadium that is big enough.
Youngstown State

Once others start to go? These schools might look at jumping to FBS.
UC-Davis
Cal-Poly
Eastern Washington
Montana
Montana State
Northern Arizona
Sacramento State
Weber State
Albany
New Hampshire
Towson
Illinois State
Indiana State
Missouri State
Southern Illinois
Murray State
Tennessee State
Fordham
East Tennessee State
McNeese State
D2 schools upgrading their facilities right now and have blueprints to go 20,000 plus seats are:
West Texas A&M
Central Oklahoma

I think we might find some good FCS teams to moved up who are better than the schools already in FBS.

I used to say the same, but if it comes down to WKU, MTSU, FIU, FAU, and UTEP left in C-USA you better believe we are begging the MAC to let us in.

If this were the case, the Sunbelt would become the most competitive football league in the G5. Either way, I think Marshall is in a good state to jump to a better conference. If the AAC is smart, they will take Marshall and App State, but I think they would go Market over Good programs.

Marshall and WKU have created a strong rivalry, stronger than WKU vs. MTSU right now (given that MTSU is hibernating).

Yes, if something like this came to pass the Sunbelt would be in a great position and everyone would be talking about how ECU belongs in the Sunbelt and ODU in the AAC

As an ECU fan, I'd stay AAC in that scenario. Still best football and markets.

That last part is already true. But ECU won’t go for that because of a longer history of sustained success at the FBS level.

Realignment is such a touchy subject.

Got banned from the CUSA Message board last go-around for saying they took the wrong schools , and the SBC won that round by taking Georgia Southern and Appalachian State. Really did not have a feel for Coastal. Was given the choice of apologizing for my position or getting banned. At least did not get banned here.

If everyone thinks this thing through and not panic, the only losers will be the Big12 and the AAC, and that is through no fault of either.

Even CUSA can come out leaner, meaner and better, but again there is that "if".

RE: Interesting Tidbit I hear about CUSA.....
If realignment helps CUSA focus more their attention to the West then I think they'll do well.

NMSU
UTEP
UNT
UTSA
LaTech
TxSt or Lamar

That is a solid FB/BB west division. Their bball tournament is there. Their major sponsors are their. This might be a boon for CUSA-W.

Depends on who they lose in CUSA-E but I see no reason they can't be better than they are now.

Losing UNCC or ODU and replacing with JaxSt would make them a stronger FB league. If CUSA East could snag JaxSt and Liberty while only losing MU/ODU/UNCC then I think the remaining members would rejoice. That would make the East:

Liberty (who probably would love to have that Texas flank)
MTSU
WKU
JaxSt
FIU
FAU.

There's also UConn and UMass if more FB presence is needed.

This means the CUSA only needs to bring in two FCS teams.
