The SBC just inked a 5 year deal to play in the Bay Center in Pensacola. Not a bad place to spend a long weekend watching basketball.
That is a great location to watch basketball. KUDO's to the SBC. Too bad it's a weekend of watching basketball from the worst fbs conference in basketball.
Luckily for the SBC, TV deals at our level aren’t based on basketball. Football drives it all. The SBC figured that out when CUSA did their “market” grab a few years ago.
Tell that to the Big East.

RE: SBC looking to expand?
If the SBC is really that bad wouldn't Marshall want to join it to improve football and get the one NCAA bid each year. It's not like an at-large berth is at play in CUSA 3.0.

RE: SBC looking to expand?
For four pages we were beating around the bush discussing the question whose answer so heavily depends on what happens to AAC. We know AAC are losing teams. And then comes the interesting point:
1) How many teams AAC will look to replace?
2) From which conferences will those teams come
3) Will AAC be more amenable to complete restructuring?
I want to know answers to at least the first two questions before even trying to wrap my mind around this SBC announcement. And the MWC "non-announcement" is also interesting. people who claim that they do nothing frequently are planning to do something.

They are not a football conference.
But they were a football conference, and the basketball schools wanted separation, and UConn put aside football to join them. You keep telling yourself that it's okay to suck at everything else including academics because a good football team is all a school needs to progress.
And I'm pretty sure even without football each Big East school is generating more overall athletics revenue than each Sun Belt school despite it's two preseason Top 25 teams in football.

RE: SBC looking to expand?
Look on the bright side of this situation. The AAC will pick who they want. The Sunbelt will pick who they want. Both groups will vote to dissolve the conference. No one will have to pay exit fees.

Uhh, actually, the Big East is built for basketball. Period. Georgetown plays in the Patriot League which is very similar to the Ivy League. 'Nova plays in the CAA, which is another FCS league, but at least they do offer some football scholarships, unlike G'town. The vast majority of the Big East doesn't even play football!!! All of this is fine with though because the Big East is a basketball conference!!!!!!
C-USA has no sports identity, IMO. There's some good football here and there, but not a lot of it. Same thing goes for basketball. It's no wonder why teams want to leave C-USA!!

I often forget that UTSA is Tech's longest continuous conference mate since we both came over from the WAC. Good times.

RE: SBC looking to expand?
What a fun it was reading all this non sense. Time for regionalization of AAC,CUSA and SBC schools is now once the dust from BIG 12 settles down. Even if schools from others conferences jump to AAC what makes anyone believe that ESPN is willing to pay more for AAC when the contract negotiations come around next time. Its delaying the inevitable. AD's from AAC, CUSA and SBC should put their egos aside and work on making the conferences more sensible for fan support and finances. Any G5 making less than 2 MM shouldn't have to fly around their non revenue generating Olympic sports teams 2000 miles from their schools which doesn't make any sense even if you are a P5 team raking in money. I hope sanity prevails in the end.

That will never, never happen. There's no way Marshall is just going to join the Sun Belt.
That would be a major step down for all of our sports.
Where would our soccer go? The Sunbelt does not care about basketball.
Soccer is definitely a big concern considering they don't even sponsor the sport.
Coastal, Ga So, and Ga St sponsor the sport though. We would make 4 teams. UK, WVU, USC could all switch their affiliations to the SBC I suppose.
I don't see us joining the SBC unless AAC takes ODU, Charlotte, WKU, FAU which would really leave us in a pickle in CUSA East.
I could be wrong of course, but I think we will need to wait and see what the AAC does first.
App would restart soccer. 5 is enough for a conference. We'd probably get a few associate members too from the MAC that would be falling apart .
App dropped soccer for financial reasons. What has changed?

Either the Sun Belt is going to 12, or, possibly more likely, using a preemptive strike if they lose a couple of members. Either way, the league has a plan.

Probably taking a nap under a tree in her toy jeep. How the heck was she ever chosen for leading the conference not that she can control **** but be out there and make it look like you are trying for ***** sake.

Hard to imagine a scenario in which we get raided, they don’t, and somehow this is a better league.
ESPN would have a g5 monopoly

COVID.
The talk from admin when MSOC was shuttered was that it isn't a forever move but with COVID we wanted flexibility in funds for sports that we value (FB, wrestling, field hockey)

I am all for you being you, but it is interesting that you say that App values wrestling and field hockey--two sports that the Sun Belt does not sponsor--more than men's soccer which the Belt was struggling to keep alive and you helped kill by dropping it.

I believe this is the plan. I also believe that the Sunbelt won't lose anyone. They have a strong brand and a healthy relationship with ESPN. The AAC does as well but with spots opening up can take what they want from CUSA. Sunbelt will pick up some too and CUSA won't exist anymore. ESPN will have complete control over every G5 conference except MWC.

I remember that game well. I saw the writing on the wall after that game. I liked the WAC back in the old days. I just wish we had more bowl games back then.
