Lets rehash this comment after we see which team(s) if any leaves for the Big 12.

Going from $6m-8m per year down to $2m-4m per year is not the crisis people think it is. Most of the AAC isn't wasting money hand over foot like the P5 can. The XII remnants are in bigger trouble then the AAC remnants.

I recall Temple struggling to get a deal with Lincoln Financial Stadium recently. I feel like South Florida would probably be in a similar struggle if the AAC lost a couple million.

Renting stadium prices don't go down because the AAC tv deal collapses.

(but I am in the camp that thinks the current deal will stand if AAC poaches MWC team to backfill)

I think the AAC deal won’t drop much because I don’t see the L8 being proactive and going to 12 or more. They don’t want to add anyone so they will add just enough to keep their ship afloat. So probably go to 10. Tha5 means AAC loses 1, 2 at most and as you say they will backfill with MWC teams to keep close to current value.

Luck was basically thrown out of WVU, his assistant was the AD at Cincy for a couple years and was thrown out of there and then Luck was hired by the NCAA and spent several years screwing up that already feeble organization. I do not have much confidence in the competence of the man. But perhaps he has improved with age.

Luck wasn’t canned from WVU, he took a job as an executive with the NCAA. In fact WVU had just extended his contract the year before he left.
With respect to his assistant, that was Whit Babcock and he left UC to take the Virginia Tech job (which in hindsight worked out pretty good for the Bearcats).

The AAC deal won't drop at all, in fact it will go up once the AAC adds 3-5 of the BIG XII leftovers.

The only thing Temple should be doing is ask the A10 if they are willing to save your bball. Football will be fine in whatever water down version of the AAC remains. Afterall, you survived the MAC.

Word is B12 is looking at BYU. They may stand pat at 9, if they are able to convince BYU to join.

If for some reason, the AAC loses schools, there are good schools out there in CUSA and the Sun Belt to add.

You wish. Sorry Charlie...

Whats different about the AAC from most other conferences, especially the P5? (lol, I mean aside from TV dollars...) It's DEPTH.

We're NOT carried by a couple big schools, with everyone else being 'hangers on'. Unlike the B12 (2 horses... and everyone else hanging on), which is now destroyed as a P conference. That's why their TV dollars are projected to crater. The L8 + ANYONE is not going to be considered a Power conference. No way will the P4 or the media permit it. The drums will start beating soon after realignment about P4... just wait.

But while losses will def hurt, the AAC is deep (most of the AAC has been ranked recently, and has many P5 pelts) and can lose a school or two, and absolutely still be far above cUSA, etc.

Bottom line, its going to be P4, next tier will be B12, AAC, maybe MWC, then the MAC/cUSA/SBC far below that. Once the dust settles, watch the TV dollars prove me right. The B12 and the nAAC won't be that far apart. Book it.

Personally, I hate this outcome. I'd much rather the B12 been ripped apart, and we had additions to the AAC. Even if USF jumped, no way I want my away games in Ames Iowa, Manhattan Kansas, Lubbock Texas, etc. Not for being in just another tweener conference. The AAC was doing an amazing job growing as a conference. But appears thats not to be... someone is going to jump to the B12.

LOL, cope post.

Try again when you can come up with a comment or analysis of substance. Make it interesting for us.... 07-coffee3

This shows me that you know nothing about Texas politics. Here's a hint: UH is a highly diverse university located in a diverse metropolitan area that leans Dem; the state government is controlled (for the most part) by rural/suburban white conservatives. Don't hold your breath waiting for them to lift so much as a finger to help us.

RE: The AAC better BRACE FOR IMPACT
B12 expansion committee is already meeting. Looks like the L8's first priority is BYU. Then the question becomes do they add just two schools or go straight to four. I'm seeing a persuasive argument that they slow roll it. This lets the leftovers get their share of the exit fees from UT/OU as well as a share of the incoming entrance fees. It feels inevitable that some of the L8 leave, but they'll be better off to calm the waters so they don't have to deal from desperation. Instead, collect the incoming fees and use their share of them to pay for their own exit fee with someone else's money. That would also start the clock on whoever they take from the AAC's exit.

The B12 is going to drop a bit in power and prestige but it remains an autonomy conference, and even if their contract takes a hit they should realistically still be pulling down more than the AAC. If Cincy/UCF/whoever is offered 5-7 million more a year, they're 99% going to jump. They are positioning themselves to be the clear #5 conference. I find the idea persuasive that some of them leave over time on the best terms they can work out and leave a core of three or four who are stuck in the B12 while others go B1G or PAC. The core continues to add replacements and collect both exit and entrance fees. That's the payoff for the left-behinds.

So my take is that they go for BYU and either one or three more, almost certainly from the AAC. The only question is the timing.

https://dknation.draftkings.com/2021/8/2...is-houston

"The television numbers suggest that the subgroup should look west. Given the grave concern about lost revenue with the departures of Oklahoma and Texas that could potentially cost schools $10 million to $15 million a year in media rights revenue, it might be best to stay small and nimble. And it probably would be best to only add schools that would enter near the top half of the league in budget and TV drawing power. BYU could be a potential solution.

Between 2015 and ‘19, the median audience Big 12 teams (minus games involving Texas and Oklahoma) drew for 36 games broadcast on ABC, Fox or ESPN was 1.786 million viewers. BYU’s numbers were comparable; the Cougars’ median audience in 16 games broadcast on those channels was 1.64 million. For 104 games broadcast on ESPN2, ESPNU, Fox Sports 1 or Fox Sports 2, the remaining Big 12 schools drew a median audience of 482,000. BYU* drew a median audience of 682,000 from 20 broadcasts on those networks."

(Note that the interested can compare those numbers to those of their own school as a measure of viability/attractiveness as a candidate)

https://cyclonefanatic.com/2021/08/isus-...committee/

“The people who didn’t want BYU before are leaving the conference,” an unnamed Big 12 source told The Athletic.

It's funny reading on all this speculation in these post missing the most important four letters ESPN!!! LOL. I can't wait for the L8 hired hitman Oliver Luck tries to go to other media partners to strike a deal. Fox, CBS, NBC or some obsolete streaming service to outbid ESPN for AAC / ESPN properties? If you were a college President would you sign on a GOR for that? ESPN offers the best exposure in the industry and leaving that is a big risk for AAC members. ESPN can outbid them all if they want to. Go AAC!!

I don't think I implied anything of the sort. I'm saying the Gov, Lt Gov and Legislature aren't going to be inclined to fight for us because we aren't part of their constituency.

“The people who didn’t want BYU before are leaving the conference,” an unnamed Big 12 source told The Athletic.

BYU has nothing to lose by waiting, they will not jump just because a desperate and dying BIG XII changed it's mind about BYU.

Texas politics force B12 to take Houston

This shows me that you know nothing about Texas politics. Here's a hint: UH is a highly diverse university in a state controlled (for the most part) by white conservatives. Don't hold your breath waiting for our state government to lift so much as a finger to help us.

Are you implying that UH doesn't care about white conservatives? Please enlighten us.
the truth is houston has more power at state capital right now than ever before

Twice nothing is still nothing.

Brace for a financial windfall impact when espn has to pay us to keep teams from leaving to another conference, like B-12, and if espn wants a GOR then even more money, say like $9m to $13m more
