Similar feel.

But, back in the late 70's, you didn't have 90% of the media covering for Carter, like they do now for Biden. They (mostly) just reported the news as it was.

Politicians will always be corrupt/inept. It's the media's job to keep them in check. Or, it was.

This, and I never once had the feeling that Carter was actively working against the people of this country, unlike Biden.

Nixon and carter were awful presidents…the former was a domestic dipshite, and the latter sucked at foreign and domestic…
I don’t really disagree with that; I consider both of their presidencies to have been failures. And I know you’re not offering that ^^^ as a comprehensive history of the times. But I just have to say something in mitigation in regards to the Trickster: the day he took office, America had ~550,000 servicemen in-country, fighting a war on the other side of the world with nothing close to a strategy for either exit or victory.

Everything that he did, or did not do, from Jan. 1969 until Feb. 1973 was filtered through the prism of that war and how that war would be impacted, including how to secure the release of the POWs. We can both legitimately criticize Nixon for a long list of failures, and also acknowledge that his political freedom of movement was constrained from Day 1 in a way that no other president since Lincoln had to deal with.

As for the “domestic shite”, Nixon did not have time to deal with it (Vietnam) and since he didn’t really much care about it in the first place, it was easy to farm it out to White House aides and the Congressional leadership. Good, bad, or indifferent, that’s what happened. The one exception was when Nixon devoted his personal attention to Southern school integration, an issue which simply could not be kicked down the road any longer, much as Nixon would’ve been willing to do so.

Say what you will about any of the people or issues involved, but the fact remains Nixon achieved a non-violent resolution to a problem that had haunted the country for a long time. On that count at least, I can honestly say well done.

No, today is worse.

Carter was at least able to speak with clarity and not stutter, mumble, call lids for 3-4 days out of the week and damn sure wasn't the "big guy". His brother Billy was a hoot but not a complete loser like Hunter. Oh, and Jimmy's wife had class.

Carter was also the first POTUS to deal with the impact of Nixon taking the US off the gold standard, so he got the first dose of major inflation.

Surely, that honor belongs to Gerald Ford, if not to
Nixon himself.

it's close, but Carter owed a HUGE debt to the teachers unions and created the Department of Education. That's the tie-breaker for me. NOTHING has done more to damage this country long-term than the DOE.

As far as direction of country yes. The US is rapidly becoming a joke internationally. Libtards are in denial but inflation is coming and it could get really bad. Dem policies are encouraging unemployment so economic recovery is being muted by government paying people not to work. Then there's the woke culture step in line with democrat social policy or get canceled.

You just described most every dem that I know personally. Can't discuss current events or politics because they don't know much except to fill in the circle by the person with a D next to the name. Oh, but they hated DJT and when I ask them to give me an example of a policy of his that they disagreed with, they sputter and then say they hated his tweets.

I'm betting the alphabet crowd in Afghanistan is not very vocal, as in virtually silent. And that's probably because it doesn't exist. I'd also wager that being gay over there is a dangerous proposition so those who are gay very likely keep it well hidden.

OMG they found a people to do man on the street interviews and choose the one(s) that makes their point. It is not hard to do it for any POV. It may just take longer for some positions.

Carter was an inept president but an honest, God-fearing, public servant.
Biden is an inept president and a dishonest, fake Catholic, public grifter.

AH, no... NATO allies were starting to pay their fair share, China was making deals on US terms to avoid tariffs, and more important the entire world did not think they could come to America and get free everything simply by crossing the southern border into the US.

You should be more concerned about the wackadoodles in office right now. This isn't your typical democrat administration in case you haven't noticed. The level of incompetence and outright malfeasance they've exhibited is just about unprecedented in this country. Never has an administration so openly worked to degrade the quality of life and the health of its citizens like your boy Biden's* has.

Don't deny it, you voted for the effin idiot so I hope you choke on it. I have no sympathy for you at all in the coming months and years of this administrations term as they fuq you and me and everyone else that isn't them right up the ass. In fact if I could witness it I'd laugh in your prog-filth face as they did it.

Maybe one day when you figure out how to get your head out of your ass you'll come to understand exactly what has occurred in the last 7 months.
