ODU officially joins the Sun Belt today, per their announcement.

You really have to feel for UTEP and Louisiana Tech, who still are out on an island basically by themselves (FIU too, but we don't have much of a history there). I'm assuming MTSU and WKU will eventually go to the MAC or something along those lines.

I do think we should try to continue to play UTEP and La Tech in football and a few other sports.

I, for one, will miss the rich football history between ODU and Rice. So many memories ....

Which one is your favorite, the 14-point win to finish the 2018 season with a single FBS victory or one of the frustrating but ultimately irrelevant 3-point losses in 2014 and 2018?

Playing them twice in 2018 was special...

And to add insult to injury, all this happens in the one year UTEP has a decent football team and likely goes bowling!!!

We had some epic WBB battles over the years

We won it 48-42 but they were the only team within 10 points of us in the middle of one of our insane winning streaks

Didn't we break our return-for-TD streak at UTEP?

For kick returns, yeah. We had technically had a punt return TD the month before. All data from Sports-Reference.com with game links to RiceOwls.com. Sports Reference has W/L/T for our school history, but I think their intra-game player stats like a KO RET TD is only since 2000 (inclusive).

Kick return TDs search only shows one game, 2012 at UTEP. Jeremy Eddington, 97 yards in response to a UTEP FG. The TD pushed the game back to a two-score difference with 6:32 remaining. I watched this game from a Buffalo Wild Wings on Washington Ave and distinctly remember thinking "That's slowest kick return touchdown I've ever seen." I can't recall another 90+ yard run that I would describe as "lumbering."

I also ran a punt return TDs search that is a little more fruitful but still disappointingly spare. We had one vs UH to open the 2000 season, one at UTEP in 2002, another the next week vs SMU, and our last one was also in 2012 at Tulsa. All four of those were blocked punts on a short field; we haven't had a prototypical punt return TD since before 2000.

I believe Lad. McCalla had the last one, probably in '97.

Thanks for posting that, frankly. (Or rather: Frankly, thanks for posting that?) No, I'm not calling you "darlin".

I remember beating their MBB team on the road in (I think) 2015. Was Marcus Evans' freshman year and return to Hampton Roads. A bunch of ODU fans weren't thrilled that a kid from VA was beating them up, which is a big reason why I was excited for the game in the first place. That was also the third of a crazy stretch of games to end Evans' freshman season. He averaged a ridiculous 25.4 in his final 10 games (and 27 in his final 6).

CUSA in negotiations with New Mexico State, Liberty and UConn (football only).

Will that be enough to keep MTSU and WKU from bolting?

No, but nobody's asking MTSU or WKU to bolt.

Thamel now reporting that the MAC is finally considering these two. The fan-driven theory is getting some credence.

If this goes through, you have to figure that the conference dissolves altogether. We may not pay our exit fee in the end at this rate.

From the SEC board.

In terms of baseball, let's get Miami (2001, 1999, 1985, 1982) and OK St (1959). Maybe Rice (03) as a partial.

Yes, that's the long shot of all long shots, but at least we are still on the radar of some folks in the SEC--thanks to Wayne Graham.
