ESPN's Power Index has UT #53 behind #45 Ball State.
Buffalo #64.

Certainly BG being last isn't good for us. They're going to give us a game. And I don't believe it on merits. We'll see.

We need quality quarterback play to win, and I don't trust Candle's ability to choose the right one. Hope he proves me wrong.

Last season's (admittedly shortened) performance by Bradley would have ranked statistically as one of the very best in school history if it would have been extended over a full season - based on 164.1 QB Rating (3rd all time), 9.5 yards/attempt (2nd all time), & 10.5% TD percentage (3rd all time). Most of Peters stats were top 10 all-time too.
This despite them playing behind an offensive line that, for example, gave up more sacks (15) in 6 games, than the Woodside's record-setting 2016 team gave up in 13 games (14) - plus untold QB hits and hurries.
QB play will go as OL play goes.

I strongly believe that our success is predicated on the performance of our offensive line. All other pieces are solid!

Yeah, I don’t understand some of the tepid response toward Bradley. He has a big arm and has showed some development already in spite of limited play. I expect great things from him this season.

There's a reason the Rockets have all those big targets now.

I want to see us go back to throwing to tight ends again. Every level of football is making that a priority, and it seems like every recruiting class we sign a highly rated one. Pinkel would line up two as receivers. Who's going to cover them?

Right, I don't recall anyone particularly being annointed in Spring. Am I wrong? Skills and athletes a-plenty but who is going to be strong in clutch time, who can best lead? Who can wing it 50 yards on a dime between two tight defenders, I want that one. :)

Watch the Bradley qb'd winning 83 yd drive
against CMU. The game winner, 3rd and 22 -
a 28 yd TD pass from Carter to Newton. He's
your starter. A great arm and can run(watch the NIU game).

I like Carter Bradley and think he should and will be the starter to begin the season.
But I love the idea of Finn's athleticism IF* he develops the ability to deliver the ball on time and on target. His legs open up holes for all the RB's even if the line is average. But he has to be able to make the throws to keep the safety's from creeping into the box and keep the edge rushers from crashing down.

Good coaches know when to put in the #2 QB--be it be for a single play or even a series. The UT staff has never seemed to master this technique. When used against UT, it is usually very effective. Hopefully this year the Rockets can figure out when Finn can be used effectively to confuse the defense. This type of substitution could be a difference maker in a couple of games.

For no other reason than I just enjoy that game and it's fun watching CBs trying to tackle an offensive lineman that can run and catch. Combined with a solid running game and a stretch WR shuffling in, great game to watch.

There are a couple of things I am convinced of regarding offensive football, one being that formations that have a true tight end screw with defenses. The other is that in this age of personnel groupings an offensive unit that can run multiple personnel grouping without changing personnel is a nightmare to defend. With the rules allowing the defense time to sub if the offense runs new personnel into the game it makes it next to impossible to substitute against 10, 11, or Empty groupings if you don't change people. A quality TE can allow you to go from 10 personnel to 11 simply by aligning in the slot and shifting back to a true TE alignment or vice-versa. Now add up-tempo and you can really put the defense in a bind.
I once attended a clinic where Larry Kehres stated that if you have a TE that can do it all (catch, hook the DE, etc) that he is too good to be an offensive player and should be switched to DE. I wonder if he still would think that way.

This will be a very good Toledo team. How far can they go???? A few good bounces and calls and this team can go 11-2 or 12-1. I really just want a good competitive non stupid mistake season.
The players are in place. This is still a VERY young team.
Toledo has the TE's to make the TE passing game work.
I expect big contributions from Blankumsee, Stephens, and Newton at WR. Blankumsee will be great!!!!!
I'm very excited to be back in GB in the fall!!!!!!!!! This is great.
I think the hires from last year will really pay dividends as will the depth. I think we'll get more pressure from the edge in Kuligowski's scheme and we have the players to do it.
Go Rockets!

Phil Steele's All-MAC predictions:
Can't fathom how he has Gurman 2nd team, ahead of Rosi who is 3rd team. (Not to mention Gurman is listed as Guard instead of tackle.)
And Culppepper as 3rd team All-MAC? He had 5 tackles at PSU last season. Not saying he won't contribute at UT, but jumping to All-MAC seems to be reaching at this point. I mean, we can hope.
