Some good stuff here. Thanks for sharing.

One of the issues brought up was alcohol sales at NMSU sporting events. I was wondering what schools in the conference has alcohol sales and which athletic events sell them? Tarleton has not sold alcohol at our events but I am hoping this changes. I think alcohol can be a new revenue stream especially for football.

Was that a very veiled threat at legal action if or when the need arises?

I think it was. If the conference decides to FBS they might be gearing up for a fight in the courts.

NMSU is unique (I think) in that they do not own/manage the basketball arena (Pan American Center). Special events owns it. It has caused issues with practices, games, etc. And NMSU does not get all of the revenue for their sporting events. Just another disadvantage that NMSU has.

I know the WAC has the #goldenticket but I wonder if suing the CFP opens up the floodgates for the others to get in on it? If the WAC can declare itself FBS again without the schools having really done anything to improve themselves since they were FCS then whats to stop other FCS conferences that were formerly D1-A?

Also, since the WAC is definitely establishing itself as an FCS conference then doesnt that mean they kind of relinquish the FBS tag? By becoming an FCS conference the WAC should be entitled to the same CFP payments all the other FCS conferences get right? If so then they arent being excluded.

Just some thoughts. Maybe I'm just way off base here lol.

Could also be considered a probationary period.
I believe the idea has nothing to do with the wac having formerly been fbs. But rather applied to all fcs conferences who meet the requirements. The problem those who would exclude is the lack of consistency in excluding current conferences. Basically deciding the haves and have nots arbitrarily.

Nah man great questions. I believe that their is a possibility it does which might be what conferences like the ASUN are looking to take advantage of but from what I’ve been reading is that once the GOR expires in 2025, most are hoping/planning for the chaos that will ensue when the P5 (P6) essential create their own autonomous subdivision. So it seems that it’s the desire to remain in the second tier of college football that seems to be driving some of the movement.

Additionally, I’m honestly not sure. It seems that that would be the argument opponents could make right? They fielded as an FCS conference so they’ve relinquished all claim that they could’ve had to any spot as an FBS conference. But apparently I read that apparently in the NCAA FBS bylaws their apparently is some agreed upon clause that gives the WAC it’s #GoldenTicket legs in which it stands that allows them to resume play as an FBS conference when it so chooses. I do not believe that entitles them to funds from the CFP pot though.

Will the WAC be an FBS conference? Will they get CFP monies? Will the new additions leave? (Doubt it) find out next time on Dragon Ball Z. lol

Liberty proved that anyone can sue their way into the FBS. You just need to have the wherewithal to front the time and legal costs that such a battle will require.

I believe GCU doesn't own theirs either.

From your lips to God's ears...

It took many years for schools like Texas A&M and Texas State to start selling but once they did, it was good for business.

I don't think God would advocate alcohol sales.

Lamar started selling alcohol at their games in 2019. My guess is SFA and SHSU also sell alcohol at their sporting events.

To listen to the nmsu AD perk up and get all giddy when asked about the WAC going FBS...and we're talking about a man who had just returned from the meetings in Denver...one would have to be a bumbling idiot to not believe this thing is in motion.

So if it comes to that, we can rule out any of the WAC FBS wanna bes. They definitely don't have the money. Maybe in 5 years. Liberty is a whole other class of institution.

Liberty would have used a religious slant to any potential lawsuit either. What discrimination can the WAC claim?

Whatever their lawyers want to conjure up. With the new 12 team playoff structure pending, I'd really question any significant opposition to schools wanting to go FBS indy. And if the cartel was really that worried about any new move ups, they could just raid a couple of the best WAC FB candidates and knee cap any potential "in mass" move up attempt.

Hey Hornet. how 'bout you convince Cal Poly, Portland State, the "Dungpilers" and a few others to resurrect Big West football? Then we can claim a piece of the FBS pie, too.
