The closed caption subtitling just said the "the Rice Elves" win, defeating "Permits" 3-1. I'm enjoying both the reality and the cc.

All three scores by freshmen...and doesn't include maybe the best freshman of all... Gorgi, Furuto and Albuquerque will be stars at Rice.

This is an impressive win against a solid opponent. So are we in the round of 32 now?

I like the way the team stayed with their game plan after Furman scored the first goal against them in 8+ matches. No panic. No worries.

Great job Owls!

RE: Soccer NCAA Tournament
I wonder why on Wednesday night the Owls' historic win over Furman -- the program's first-ever NCAA Tournament victory -- is the 4th story on the Riceowls.com website.

Placed ahead of it were:
  • Tuesday's 35th Annual Scholar-Athlete Celebration
  • Topics Trending**, and
  • Friday's announcement of Lindsay Edmonds at Rice's Women's basketball coach.

** BTW, here's what's "trending":

Quote:? 2021 Rice Football Season Tickets
️ Custom Rice Baseball MyPoster
? Night of Flight Virtual Auction & Event Registration
️ 2021 Rice Athletics Hall of Fame Nominations
? Summer STEM-Letics Academy Registration
? Win Rice Owls DASH Events
? Rice Owls Sports Show
️ Kids Club Registration
? Rice Owls Insider Presented by IBEW
? Video On-Demand
? Host Your Next Event @ Rice University
? Subscribe to Weekly Newsletter
? Official Game Day App
? Story Archives
? Impact the True Student-Athlete Experience
? Upcoming Events

Who in the world could think that two old-news articles and a long list of surely-not-really-trending activity links are more important than today's historic win?

Unconventional thinking (if not "wisdom"), indeed!!

(Sorry -- not sorry! -- that most of the cutesy mini-icons in front of each trending item didn't carry forward to this post. Someone surely put a lot of work into finding them.)

Wonder if the Chronicle will have anything? If not the marketing dept should be fired.

I see it now as the #2 story.

That's better. But why is the incredibly lame and misleadingly headlined "Topics Trending" #1?

Where are the web analytics that show those links are the top "trending" ones in Rice athletics? (I suspect that they're not. In which case, why call them 'trending' at all? GRRRR!!)

I share your Grrr. Was anyone not able to find the "next story" until they added "topics trending?" Would be nice to see a big splash page similar to the one they were using for 'night of flight'

The signing class is supposed to be dynamite. Also, the transfer from Alabama will be eligible and is a big time offensive player who really transferred solely for academic reasons (I believe she is interested in the medical/bio-engineering field). There may be other transfers from academic schools that are interested in playing soccer at Rice that are yet to be announced.

Almost everyone who was a major contributor returns next year (except for Keane and Ericksen).

The future is bright.

Actually, I heard that Caleigh Page will graduate and move on to her new job...in the analytics department with the NY Jets...apparently she has a real talent with statistics and sports analysis (especially in American football)

They probably could need her today. They have the second pick in tonight's NFL Draft and based on their history of drafting quarterbacks, something tells me they're going to blow it again (they drafted Sam Darnold ahead of Baker Mayfield, Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson in 2018, and Ken O'Brien three picks ahead of Dan Marino in 1983).

A lot of teams passed on Marino, but Ken O'Brien was a really good QB.

Thanks for the information. I was a little concerned because I had not seen where any soccer signees had been announced.
