Baseball vs. LaTech
Every day is ground hog day for Rice Baseball.
Brogdon shuts out the stout offense of LaTech for 5 innings, but is approaching 90 on the pitch count do to 3 walks. The Owls, of course, have no runs on just 1 hit. So it's scoreless heading to the top of the 6th. Of course, Bragga has no one starting to get loose in the pen. After getting the leadoff batter, Brogdon gives up a walk, double (gets trailing run out at 2B after he rounds the base to far), single, another double.....but only one run so far. Runners on 2B and 3B, one out. Bragga rushes out an unwarmed Wood who promptly walks the first batter on 4 pitches....then a passed ball scores a second run...walks the next batter...gets a strikeout for the 2nd out...then balks in the 3rd run.
And once again, a valiant effort by a starter pitcher goes to waste.
Yes, you can blame Wood, but once again Bragga can't anticipate a pitcher getting tired, has no one warming up, then rushes a guy in who has had no time to warm up properly.
Deja vu all over again!

Bragga's management of the pitching staff has been consistently poor, to say the least.

Can colleges have a deep enough staff to have a dedicated pitching coach? Might some bad game management be attributable to that guy not seeing something in the mechanics to indicate pitcher fatigue?
What is described in post 1 above is horrible.
I want Rice coaches to be among the most sport’s savvy, clever people in their trade. This staff seems to fall short in that regard. Thank goodness they recruit so well.?

Most impressive stats for the night:
1. First game post is after the fifth inning.
2. 5 total posts during the game.
Does anyone give a **** any more.

Momma always told me, if you can’t say something nice...
And I can’t say anything nice about this season.

Truthfully, it’s not. It should be but it’s not. Sad times.

Added info:
7:31 - Wood starts stretching
7:34 - Wood throws first legitimate warmup pitch from the mound
7:37 - Bragga goes to the mound, stalls until the umpire comes out, and summons Wood.
Wood appeared to be trying to get as many throws in as possible while Bragga was at the mound. He comes in, gives up a couple of walks, both inherited runners score, and 3 runs are on the board.
Also, a comment about pitch calling. Micah Davis threw 42 pitches to 7 hitters. 4 were breaking balls and two were to one hitter. I would be sitting fast ball all day.

During the first two pitches.
It should be once the season's done. It's possibly our worst program right now. Don't think any other team men's or women's has a worse RPI. Being that it's supposed to be our top program, not sure how he could survive without a major turnaround this season.

RE: Baseball vs. LaTech
Owls having an inning in B3 in game 1. 4 runs in so far. Owls at 2nd and 3rd with 1 out. Owls up 4-2.
No further scoring for the Owls after a 1-3 and 6-3. The 1-3 was lined off the pitcher’s back. He recovered held the runners and got the out.
