RE: Langley to Washington
My only issue with the hiring process taking longer (if it does) is that, in my mind, it would somewhat undermine JK's assertion about the desirability of this job. The longer the process plays out, the more and more it seems like the job isn't as coveted as expected and you're missing out on your primary candidates. But it's been closer to 10 days than 20 at this point, so there's nothing to be concerned with yet.

USC's head coach resigned, so that probably becomes the most attractive job on the market ahead of us.

The LSU job may be considered more desirable. At least the LSU insiders are pretty sure Kim Mulkey is going to be named the new head coach there, possibly by tomorrow.

Tough to find any complaints with that choice. Looks like an excellent recruiter. Mid-major experience. Power program experience. Texas ties

She sounds like a great candidate.

Wow, looks like Mulkey is going to leave Baylor for LSU. Can't imagine that candidates who are going to be lined up for that one. A coach's dream to inherit a program like Baylor's.

Given the stature of the Baylor program, this move has to be all about the money, and nothing else.

And I wouldn't be surprised if Baylor hired from within to ensure as much continuity as possible.

Honestly, I think it's as simple as Mulkey deciding she wants to go home. She has a lot of ties to Louisiana. There also might be other stuff at play - the Baylor boards have mentioned something about her demanding (asking for) facility upgrades.

I imagine with a job of this stature you're definitely looking within but you're also seeing if you can poach a young superstar HC. Probably a select few who would turn down the AD's phone call if he came calling.

Kim Mulkey to LSU - officially.

I guess the coaching change and transfer portal will remain volatile for the next few weeks.

I don't think the Baylor folks are too happy with Mack Rhoades (who has kind of impressed me as the Todd Graham of athletic directors to be honest).

I thought I read somewhere where some players were accusing Mulkey of verbal abuse and she was kinda forced out. Any truth to this?

Well there was this...

I think she’ll fit in perfectly at LSU. They might have my least favorite basketball program now.

If Baylor was too liberal for her liking, I'm not sure Mulkey will be happy with LSU either. To be fair, it might have been a straight power struggle and politics might not have had much to do with her decision to leave.

It's been awhile now but I remember after their first national title, Mulkey forced Emily Niemann (Jeff's younger sister) out because she didn't agree with her lifestyle.

There's a tweet out there that I think probably best summarizes Mulkey: "A key clause in Mulkey's contract that sealed the deal: twice a week LSU is going to send a small child with an ice cream cone over so Kim Mulkey can knock the ice cream on to the sidewalk and watch the kid cry." Obviously facetious, but probably what most people in the game think of her (even setting aside whether you agree with her politics or not). One of the best coaches of all time, extremely dislikable person.

If Mulkey had gone to LSU first, I wonder how much speculation there would have been about Langley to Baylor.
